That tells me how many Texas citizens live vicariously through the lives of 17 year olds.

So do you go to OU games to live vicariously through 20 year old dudes?

I think it's great to have a facility like that for high school and have a feeling that place was not built with public money, but through donations. The only down side, as I see it, is the players can become over enamoured with themselves and forget the real reason they are in school. Sometimes parents and fans can get over the top, but that happens at all level of children's sporting events. It's all good if things stay in proper perspective.

I always brag about graduating third in my class. I try not to mention that there were only 32 kids in my graduating class.

schools were a lot smaller in the 1920s, right?

If you drive around Texas, out in the middle of some giant cow turd you drive up on a high school football stadium that seats 25,000 people in a county that has 8,000 in it. I am exaggerating a little, but not much.

I am always amazed when I see those giant Texas High School Football Stadiums in the middle of nowhere.

That's uncalled for.

What's wrong with enjoying football? This just shows football is king in Texas.

I thinks it's awesome that HS football is so big in TX. Whole communities roll out to the stadiums on Friday nights.

In Oklahoma Jenks and Union may have around 6,000 students. They have by far more students than any other 6A school in Oklahoma. They have built football dynasty's. One of them has won the 6A title the last 18 years straight. And not only that but they have played in the title game against each other those 18 years I believe.

Saw Union play Desoto this year at Dragon Stadium (Southlake Carroll's stadium). I was surprised Union was able to hang with Desoto, especially after Desoto scored within 1 minute right after the kickoff. Eventually Desoto gave Union a beatdown, 44-20, but it was only a 9 pt lead for Desoto going into the 4th quarter.

I get what you're saying, but I just don't understand why anyone would give a shit about high school level football if you aren't a student there, or don't have a close relative playing. Different strokes for different folks. Enjoy sports however you like.

Why can't Texas field a football team then? That's the real question.

Didn't Texas win a BCS title and play for another with all of their starters coming from the Lone Star State? Hell, the only reason MIZZOU is remotely relevant is b/c of players that hail from Texas. Know your role.....

Shortly after my wife and I got married, we flew out to Texas to visit her son. We had about an hour drive or so to his house. We passed this fairly large stadium and I asked him what college that was and he said it was a high school. I just laughed and said, "Us San Diego folk have nothing on you Texas football junkies."

I guess that would be okay for him though...

I know I do. Color me "vicarious" guy. I actually get pretty worked up about it tbh.

I also go to HS football games, as my daughters are on the cheer and dance squads. I get into those games as well.

I watch the NFL occasionally and actually went to my first NFL game this year. Spilled my beer jumping up when Demarco made a big run.

I am teh suck.

I'm with ya. I just don't get why someone would look down on people for cheering for their high school team.

me either

i don't care about my HS team, but i have friends back home who do and it seems reasonable to me

(i LIVE for college football, but i no longer attend LSU--should i stop watching them?)

it's even funnier to me to get worked up over pro football

they are franchises

it's like "Go 3rd St McDonalds! Beat Main St!"
