Never really worked for Vick. RG3 is done. Kaepernick has jumped the shark. Harbaugh will be back coaching in the NCAA within 2 years. Chip Kelly's O is already getting slowed down. This shit (yes, shit) won't work in the NFL where everyone is fast.

The next scrambling QB who wins a SB will be the first. Don't hold your breath.

There is always room for an athlete.

NFL scouts are licking their lips over TB, Boyd and Manziel just to name a few. There will never be a shortage of running QB's inbound to the pro's and there will always be a NFL team looking to upgrade thier old model for a new shiny one.

So, if someone with Peyton Mannings passing ability could run like Vick, Manziel or Kaepernick he wouldn't be able to win a super bowl either?

I tend to agree. The running QB can work in college where the level of talent isn't as high for each team. Every LB is as fast as the fastest QB in the NFL.

That's not to say that the scrambling QB won't find success, but having your go-to play be the read option won't really last. You need someone who can pick up a chunk of yards on a broken play, but not someone who needs to run for 60+ yards in order to find success each week.

If they have a defense, any QB could win a SB.

I agree that coaches will keep trying. They're all ego maniacs. And they're going to be forced to as more and more elite college QB's come out as scramblers (the hot thing to be in college) but imo it will never fully translate to the NFL. Defenses are too big, too fast, and the coordinators are too smart to let a QB run all over an NFL field. If it's not defenses catching up to this fad, it's injuries. These guys you name will have to really improve as pocket passers first and runners second to find success at the next level.

LOL I guess that someone missed the game last night. I don't expect Kaepernick or Wilson to be sent to the bench anytime soon.

well aaron rodgers won a SB, he runs for over 300 yards a season!!! maybe thats less than Kaepernick, newton, wilson, RG3, pryor, vick. But it is more than everyone else... plus it is unfair to knock kaepernick, wilson, RG3 and pryor since they have not been in the league for long... And newton has been on a terrible team... Vick is the only one who we can really knock in this, and he is not as talented as cam,RG3, wilson and Kaep... You're just being a hater, and not being reasonable at all...

Yep since EVERYTHING is determined after week 2 in the NFL. Thanks for that expert analysis.

BTW - I am in no way an Eagles fan. However - they did have over 500 yds & scored 30 pts (only 3 fewer than the previous week). How exactly is that being slowed down? Their problem at this time appears to be on defense.

nah, there is always going to be room in the NFL for a QB that can make plays with his feet and his arm.

Hmm, seems like news to me.

Is Aaron Rodgers not a scrambling QB? He ran for a lot of yards via scrambles the year he won the SB.

Overreaction Monday at its finest.

This is not new news. It's a constant, like I illustrated in my first post. Are any of today's run-first QB's better than Vick in his prime? I'd say no. I repeat, the next scrambling QB who wins a SB will be the first.

Aaron Rogers is obviously not a scrambling QB like a Vick, Kaep, RG3 etc...who I'm clearly discussing here. He is a pocket passing QB who throws first and uses his feet as a complimentary weapon (much like Steve Young was). Russell Wilson is imo more like Rogers and Young than he like RG3 and Vick.

Apples to oranges comparing elite passers like Rogers to fad QB's like Kaepernick and RG3.

Nope. It isn't over, as long as they are good throwers. The read option will see its demise now that defense can hit the QB if he hands it off, that will make teams not want to run the play as their QB is taking too many hits. I didn't watch the full game last night, but Kaepernick did a read option play and handed it off and was destroyed on the play. Defenses will use this as a free hit on the QB time.

I'm more in line with your thinking here. To win championships in the NFL the QB can't be one of the your primary playmakers...a few designed rushes are fine, but, a heavy dose of running from the QB position is not going to beat many playoff caliber teams.

That said, from what I've seen, Kaep, RW, RG3, Vick all have the arm to win playoff games.

its unfair to knock kaep, his first season as a starting QB making the Superbowl...
its unfair to knock russel wilson-his rookie season making it to the second round in the playoffs
its unfair to knock RG3- his rookie season he made the playoffs
it is unfair to knock Terelle pryor- this is his first year as the full time QB, and he is on the oakland raiders
the only ones you can knock is Michael vick and cam newton... but even them, they never had the teams to go anywhere...

Rodgers always has been a top 10 rushing QB throughout his career, and most years top 5... how can you knock all the rushing QBs without even mentioning rodgers?? stop being a hater, and think logically!!!

I think the word "scrambling" in the thread title is imprecise, since you seem to mean "running" or "read option". Either way, you seem to ignore that Kaepernic and Wilson are pretty well seated as the starters on what look like two of the best teams in the league. Seems to me that that is pretty strong evidence that what you refer to as the "running QB fad" is far from over.
