Agreed on the discipline, but both Bell and Bush didn't do anything flag-worthy.

Bell jumped into the stands, something that Green Bay players have been doing for years, nothing illegal there. Bush will be fined/charged for the football he chucked into the stands, but that's also not a penalty since it was a scoring play. It would have a penalty on a non-scoring play though...

As for the rest of it, yuck! Suh just has to learn that when he's behind/away from the play that it's ok to stop playing on that particular snap. Players are coached to play through the whistle, but at some point you just gotta know when you're out of the play. I can see where he was coming from, since the ball carrier (Levy) was only about 5-6 yards ahead of the guy when he dove, but Suh has to be able to access the risk/reward of diving at a guy like that.

Delmas needs to learn to shut his mouth and play football, simple as that. He played well, but there's just no reason to be jawing at guys so much. Imo, that goes back to Schwartz being an overly cocky s.o.b.- his players play the way he coaches them...

I didn't like the sidearm at Reggie's shins. But I'm not gonna dwell on it.

Reggie also threw the ball into the stands kinda sidearmed. I saw the replay and thought you'd have a shit fit smitty. ;)

I actually haven't even seen Reggie's celebration yet. I was too busy high fiving you! (And TPaul. And Max and...). My actual biggest annoyances were Scheffler's hair, Scheffler's drop, Houston not turning to look, Martin dropping the snap, and FUCKING instant replay!!! The good outweighed the bad by a lot. Nate looked like a real receiver and we didn't run a reverse. How could I be mad?

While Martin's kickoffs were excellent the guy is so eratic as a punter I cant believe it. He seems to either boom it or shank it.

I didnt think much of Michael Spurlock either. I would like to see him going alot more north and south with the ball than the side to side he kept doing for no yardage at all.

BTW, did anyone see just how fast Patrick Edwards really is? If you have it on tape watch the long Bush TD reception. Bush is already at full speed when Edwards takes off after him. He is a full 5 yards behind him when Bush is at the 45 yard line and still not yet at full speed and had he not let up would have beaten Bush to the end zone. I had no idea he was that fast.

He was erratic, but he's also a rookie playing in his first game. Obviously we want to see him get those shanks out of his system though.

I was encouraged by that clutch kick at the end of the game to pin them down at the 1 yard line.

I was actually pretty pleased with Spurlock. Several of those punts he got 4 or 5 yards out of would have all been fair catches last year. I like that he's got the hands and confidence to field the ball in traffic and at least gain a few yards. Those are plays we didn't have last year. He didn't make any splash plays, that one 10 yard return was his only "good" return, but he's a definite upgrade over what we've had at the position. Plus, he was the guy that downed the ball at the 1 yard line on Martin's punt.

He's no Devin Hester, but he was wildly successful as a return man for the Chargers last year. He was one of only 3 players in the league last year with a kick and punt return TD despite only having 21 total returns. On 10 kick returns he took one to the house, and on 11 punt returns he took one to the house. That's pretty wild. Considering how crappy Logan was, I'm ok with having a guy like Spurlock on board right now.

But don't get me wrong- I don't think he's a game changer, but he's better than the status quo has been.

Yes! I noticed the same thing on the replay, he's fucking crazy fast! Bush and the safety are both going full speed for the endzone and Edwards comes just flying into the shot like a bullet.

I knew he was supposed to be fast, but not that damn fast. If he gets the ball in the open field he can do some damage on the YAC for sure...

Lions won but as fans we should be very concerned. What happens when the lions play a legitimate team with an nfl quarterback and defense? Im happy to see they won but im not planning on getting my hopes up after watching one of the worst first halfs ever. They were just awful, period in the season opener at home. Second half they looked amazing. Game plan was weak, calvin needs to be much more involved. The stupid penalties cost the lions way too much and schwartz is still shrugging it off. He has no control over the team, its pathetic. They truly looked like the same old lions out there in the first half, so who will we get this season, the lions of old or an improved outfit?

Negatives-dumb penalties
Pettigrew
Not enough CJ
No return game
Too many missed opportunities
Timeouts and challenges when not needed
Too many false starts at home
The 76 yard run first play

Positives
Martin kicking out of end zone constantly
Bush
Offensive line
Defense in general, hats off to levy and the d line.
Burleson
Bell

Mostly the offensive and defensive lines tho, the oline did well run blocking and protected the qb and against the likes of jared allen. Dline was very stout on run defense minus the one big run.

Again they were only playing against ponder and i think he sucks, will be interesting when they play a legit qb. Palmer could be in trouble with the cardinals not blocking worth shit and them not having a running game, this is a winnable road game.
