Yeah, Lebron is completely innocent and it's everyone else that has a problem. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Someone does something stupid and the problem isn't them doing something stupid, it's on everyone else for calling him out on it.

Like I said in an earlier post, I guess the problem with Andrew Bynum parking in a hadicapped zone wasn't a problem with him, it was with the person who reported it and all of the people who bashed him for it.
Thats my point. Its not everyone else. If it was everyone else having an issue then I would agree with you.

Don't try and act like Lebron was some naive 25 year old kid that was suddenly thrust in the spotlight and didn't know how to handle it. Lebron has been in the public eye since he was 13 years old and Sport Illustrated tabbed him as the next great player. He had 12 years of experience with media exposure by the time he was 25. As for the charity angle, not buying it. Charity was an afterthought. The kids were stuck in the back of the stage watching, just like the rest of us. There was no spotlight on the charitable organization, there was nothing about what they do or what Lebron had already done for them. The whole thing was centered around Lebron.

You don't have to buy it. As was said before, this is a "you" problem, not a Lebron problem. Regardless of how much media attention he was used to, this was unprecedented. It also wasn't about raising awareness of charities; it was to raise money for them through proceeds based off the fact that it WAS all centered around him. I said it before and I'll say it again: any other person would've done the same thing given the circumstances and positives.

The problem with the not 1, not 2, etc. was how it came off. I understand that it was supposed to a "private party" with the big 3 and 25,000 or so Heat fans at the arena, but it was televised. When you choose to televise something, it is no longer private. If I were a Heat fan, I sure as heck don't want to hear him say "Gee, I hope I can win a championship while I'm here", however, he came off like he thought it was going to be easy and that was disrespectful to the game and the other teams.

Again, another "you" problem. It's not his concern to think how some random person might construe something he said at what was essentially a pep rally. This thing happens all the time at college campuses every single Saturday in the fall. It was televised, sure, but it wasn't meant for the general NBA fan. He said what he said in front of ONLY Miami fans in attendance, and he did it to get them fired up. There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he said, and if you're a fan of another team and you took it as "disrespect" towards your team, then the real problem is with your team because clearly you think he's right.

Well, he made them his hometown team when he said: "I have a dream and it's a big one. I want to bring a championship to Cleveland and I won't stop until that happens". I have no problem with him leaving Cleveland. From what I've seen and heard, the only people that are in Cleveland don't know that they are allowed to leave. It's the way he did it amd the way he acted for a good year after he left and things like this video that I don't like. It's unnecessary. The guy is the best player in the world. Shouldn't that be enough?

That still doesn't make them his hometown team. They make him the team he currently played on. This video is being blown way, way out of proportion. If it was literally anyone else in sports, nobody would care. Shouldn't him being the best player in the world be enough for whom? You? Me? Him? The haters? I get this isn't everyone's flavor, and that's fine. Different strokes for different folks. However, just at least think about what's going through his mind before you start passing judgement. He's human, too.

Saw that I forgot to address this. It's simple, when was the last time you saw Peyton Manning or Tim Duncan do anything to bring that on themselves?

Lebron has had haters since he was a rookie, though, and it was through no fault of his own. He's had the media riding him since he was in middle school just because he is so damned good. Regardless of how he is as a person, there are ALWAYS going to be haters. Duncan has never received press because, while he's a good player, he's not going to go down as the GOAT, or even be in the discussion. Peyton, in all honesty, gets a lot of flack. While he may not use twitter to voice his displeasure, this is also the same guy that publicly threw his entire offensive line under the bus at a post-game press conference while in Indy, so he's far from perfect himself.

Thats my point. Its not everyone else. If it was everyone else having an issue then I would agree with you.

It doesn't have to be 100% of everyone else. However, there are alot of people (outside of Heat fans and Lebron fans) that have a problem with much of what he has done from The Decision all the way up to this recent video.

Bottom line is pretty simple, don't post videos like that and NOONE is commenting on it.

People ask why Lebron gets so much criticism for what he has done, but Kobe doesn't get as much (outside of a few haters) for the r*pe allegation.

The reason is pretty simple. Lebron keeps feeding into it and Kobe doesn't. Kobe made his statement re: his side of the story at a press conference with his wife present and then shut up about it.

Lebron keeps doing and saying things that bring it back up. Like I said, every time the hate starts to die down a little bit, he does or says something else.

And my criticism for those kinds of things doesn't extend to just Lebron. Part of the reason that Kobe is not only not my favorite all-time Laker (not even top 5), he is not even my favorite current Laker, is because he has done and said some pretty stupid things as well. While the whole Shaq/Kobe thing was more Shaq than Kobe, Kobe still played a big part in it and could have squashed just as easily as Shaq could have. Might have cost the Lakers another championship or 2. I also didn't like the trade demand or what he said about Bynum. And even though it appears that he didn't r*pe that girl, he still cheated on his wife, which does not sit well with me either.

In my opinion, Kobe is more of asshat as a person than Lebron will ever be, however, he's smarter about PR than Lebron.

Did Bill Russell, Jerry West, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, MJ, Hakeem, Tim Duncan ever act like that? Get real man, this guy is dragging basketball to new lows.

I hadn't realized that was possible.

Act like you have been there before

Still he couldnt lead his own team to a title. He needed to join "the big3"

Cleveland would have had a losing record if not for Lebron James. He carried that team to the finals that year. Gilbert was unwilling to bring anyone to help him in, so Lebron done what was in his best interest. You can't blame him for that.

Again, if it was about charity, then make it about the charity. It was about Lebron and the charity was an afterthought. If that were me, it would have been about the charity. If you make it about the charity, you come off as a good guy because you're donating money to that charity AND you encourage others to do the same.

This is why so many of today's athletes do and say some of the stupid crap that they do. Because when they do it and get called on it, their fans want to blame the people calling them out on it rather than the athlete for doing it.

Additionally, it was not "ONLY Miami fans in attendance". It was televised, so millions who are not Miami fans were in attendance as well.

Absolutely not true. If Kobe posted a video like that, there are plaenty of "haters" who would be killing him over it just like Lebron is getting killed over it.

As for who should him being the best player in the world be good enough for? How about for him and his fans?

There are 2 groups of people whose opinions re: Lebron are unlikely to ever change. His fans and what I call the "true haters".

His fans love him and their opinion of him is unlikely to change no matter what. He'd have to do something pretty extreme to change their opinion.

The "true haters" aren't going to change their opinion of him either. He could save 100 babies from a burning building all by himself and the "true haters" will say that he set the fire so that he could rescue those babies to make himself look good.

Then there are the folks that are more like me. I'm a fan of the league and of the sport and I want the best player in the game to behave like the best player in the game both on and off the court. I have been following the NBA since 1970 and seen it grow from basically a niche sport in this country (a distant 3rd behind the NFL and MLB) to where it is probably the 2nd most popular sport in this country and is looking like it could overtake soccer as the #1 sport worldwide. Things like that video are a "bad look" and feed into the belief that many have that NBA players are a bunch of entitled thugs playing a "fixed" sport.

I'd actually like nothing more than to start liking Lebron again, but he sure is making it hard to do!!

When was the last time you saw Peyton Manning or Tim Duncan getting unfairly/over the top criticized and scrutinized for every single thing they do? When you overcome all of that hate and come out on top, it's hard not to look back at all the haters and give them a taste of their own medicine. Good for LBJ.

STILL say he wouldn't have gotten NEARLY as much crap if he'd've simply kept his big-ass mouth shut. sorry, but i don't see the problem...

If you make it about the charity, you come off as a good guy because you're donating money to that charity AND you encourage others to do the same.

To be fair, as long as he's raising money and donating it, why would it matter if it also made him "look like a good guy"? Also, if you actually watched it, they mentioned the charity aspect of it quite a bit, as did Lebron in the media before and after.

Additionally, it was not "ONLY Miami fans in attendance". It was televised, so millions who are not Miami fans were in attendance as well.

But what made it so stupid?? Like I said, he was at a Miami Heat rally for Miami Heat fans! Seriously, you are going way too far with this aspect. He said what he said to get all of the fans in attendance to stand up, cheer, and actually give a shit about the Heat again in South Beach. There was nothing wrong with what he said at all, and if it was any other player who just signed a big FA deal saying it, nobody would've cared. It isn't his job to appease other fanbases, it's his job to get his fanbase excited, and that's exactly what he was doing. Like I said, if you're really letting something like that guide your opinion of the guy, then that is really your problem.

Absolutely not true. If Kobe posted a video like that, there are plaenty of "haters" who would be killing him over it just like Lebron is getting killed over it.

Maybe. Hard to say. I personally couldn't care less, and wouldn't care if any other athlete did it.

As for who should him being the best player in the world be good enough for? How about for him and his fans?

Maybe it is, and maybe the haters are really just taking this little video snippet too far?

There are 2 groups of people whose opinions re: Lebron are unlikely to ever change. His fans and what I call the "true haters".

Agree with you on both of those points.

Then there are the folks that are more like me. I'm a fan of the league and of the sport and I want the best player in the game to behave like the best player in the game both on and off the court. See, now this is where my problem with your opinion is.

I want the best player in the game to behave like the best player in the game both on AND OFF THE COURT.

How was MJ off the court? A total pile of shit who cheated on his wife, wasn't a good father, ran sweatshops and had a major gambling problem. How was Magic off the court? He got AIDS. Guess how many women got AIDS because of him. Kobe? Alleged r*pe and cheated on his wife. Meanwhile, Lebron is still with his high school sweetheart, gives TONS of money along with a great deal of his time in the offseason running camps (while being at them, as well), doesn't get in trouble with the law, doesn't get in fights, etc. So he puts out a cheeky video directed at his haters? So he acts confident at a pep rally? If that is the worst of what he's doing off the court, the league should be overjoyed to have him, because the NBA doesn't exactly have a sparkling reputation of having solid characters off the court in general.

so you're saying he DOESN'T have a problem running his mouth? or that the stupidest things fly out of it at times...?

and btw, how's everyone SUPPOSED to take his remarks? they're there for "public consumption". he could tell the world "you're a bunch of fucktards" and i swear ALL you LeClown fans would simply say "aw, he's jus' a-funnin'. why're y'all takin' it so hard"...?

For as rampant as shit-talking is in the pro sports world, the fact that this much emphasis is being put on his little video illustrates my point perfectly.

As an adult I would hope people would laugh and go on with their lives. When you react to stuff that supposedly is not true you reveal a lot more about your insecurities.
