The Lakers regular season was a flop.

There's no debating that. A team that Lakers fans predicted would be in the finals needed a win and a Utah L on the final night of the season to make the playoffs.

What if Kobe doesn't get injured. What if Westbrook or Rondo doesn't get injured. It doesn't matter, all that matters is what happened, and what happened is the Lakers got swept.

Lets just say they did not come near meeting the preseason hype by a lot of people including myself.

I want mont and piss to show me where I said the Lakers would beat the Spurs.
Why? Youre arguing against the opinion that they would lose. Your position is pretty clear.

I dont agree they are a flop. They barely missed that designation but they werent winning more than 2 games against Spurs with or without Kobe.

And thats fine, im not arguing who wouldve won, all I said was, that its not a flop because they didnt have kobe and I believe they had a chance with him.

You guys are missing the damn point of the thread. I never said the Lakers wouldve won with kobe. I said you cant call it a flop if a team is missing their best player.

I dont care if he missed any games in the regular season, the point is he didnt get to play in the playoffs.

The Bulls have been more injury plagued than the Lakers I don't think that is debatable, but the Bulls are coached well and play with heart and passion. The Lakers are not coached well and don't play with heart.

Lakers lost players for a total of 183 games!! How many did the Bulls miss? Yes, I'd say it's very debatable!!

207. Their best player for 82, and their second best player for 16. This is not counting playoffs, where the Bulls missed even more players. Kobe missed 6 and Dwight only missed a few. It isn't even close.

If my Math is correct the Bulls players missed 166 games.

But if you only include the team top players, the Bulls had more injuries meaning we're eliminating injuries to Blake, MWP, Hinrich, RIP, and Gibson

More injuries to your top players should mean less success.

The Bulls top players (Rose, Boozer, Deng, and Noah) missed 108 games while the Lakers top players (Kobe, Nash, Howard, and Gasol) missed 75 games

It is difficult to disagree with wildcatsfan1. There were high expectations for these Lakers. Coaching changes and injuries marred the ability of this team to reach its potential. There were glimpses of what could have been a successful regular season after the All Star break, but it was more out of desperation and it was costly.

The difference between the Bulls and the Lakers is that the Bulls has a strong defensive identity and players who meshed well with the coach's defensive principles. That is why I still believe that for the Lakers to succeed, they have to find pieces that will make use of D'antoni's offensive specialty. But if the Lakers continue to employ slowing the game down and playing half court/interior centric ball then D'antoni is probably not the right coach for that.

A team that lost on the road all season was going to suddenly have success against a team with one of the best records in the league at home?

Man, I knew you Lakers fans were pathetic but I didn't think you'd sink this low.

The Lakers had their two best players for almost the whole year and were going to finish SEVENTH. This isn't the NFL, MLB or NHL. Talent just about ALWAYS wins in the NBA. Lakers had more than enough and flopped.

I.E a FLOP.

It was as big a flop as any the pro sports world has seen.

The talent is there. But the whole was less than the some of its parts. Often those parts were antagonistic. Those parts were also injured. It is a flop, but I think the Laker fans have already submitted to that. None of the Laker fans here who predicted a championship have started anything about this Lakers team as being a championship contender.

We can however argue that some of the decisions made by the Lakers organization and the attitudes of the some of the Laker players have been disappointing. Coaching changes, fingerpointing and injuries have contributed greatly to "the flop". The best that the Laker fans can hope for is whether the roster can learn from their mistakes and keep themselves free from injury. The first thing the Laker fans have to understand is that key pieces have to commit. Howard has not demonstrated any sort of championship commitment to the Lakers. In fact he has not even promised that he will bring the championship to the Lakers. Instead, he says he will take his time and make decisions for his own happiness. Kobe is injured and we will just have to see whether his health matches his drive.

But yes. It is a flop. The question is, do the Lakers have the belief that they will contend for the championship next year? if only 1 or 2 Laker player believe that then that is even more troubling than labeling this season as a flop.
