I think the pick should Ertz if we don't trade it. Ideal situation is the Jags passing on Geno Smith again though and us getting a trade from someone looking to jump up and grab him.

We still need a defensive lineman but to me a top notch 2nd TE is more valuable to this team going into next year. Unless of course we believe someone that will be there in 3rd or 4th round can be just as good.

The draft is fairly deep at defensive line. John Jenkins is still there and might still be there at 61 along with Hunt. It's not like we don't have the ammo to trade up anyway.

Trade down a few picks with someone wanting Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, or Ryan Nassib and take Ertz there. Then trade up in the round to grab one of the defensive linemen still on the board.

Another possibility is we draft Jonathan Cyprien still. Safety is a position we need depth and replacements at in the very near future. I wouldn't see it as a bad thing if our 1st 2 picks went toward the position.

I think we can wait on a te, personally. After watching the way Walker was used, I am on the wagon for Justice Cunningham, late round steal.

Maybe the best blocking te in the draft.

If it's Hunt at 34 I will be livid. I wouldn't start to think about that kid until the last two rounds but I guarantee there'll be enough players that drop that I'll like throughout this draft where Hunt won't be one of my top options at any point.

I kind of expect them to look to trade down from 34 for something next year.

If it's Hunt I will throw a Taylor Mays tantrum and something will get broken.

And "kid" is the wrong word for him. That's like saying "man" to a woman reporter.

What about carradine?

I like Carradine. I just like other guys more. It's going to be hard not getting some of my favorite players in the whole draft that are still available, but Carradine wouldn't be a bad consolation prize if they're confident in his recovery.

Who are your favourite players left on the board? (I know Eddie Lacy, but I doubt you think the Niners will take a RB in the 2nd).

I think we were all surprised at the Niners moving up to 18 to take Reid. I know I was! That said, when Balk and Har feel this strong about a player.....its usually a good sign! I know this isn't the first time we have felt this way about their picks. But we have eaten crow on more than one occasion. So serve me up another plate, please! I'm ready to eat!

I don't think they will take Lacy.....but wouldn't be totally shocked if they did. After all......Gore is getting up there in age, Hunter is coming off a major injury, and James has proven nothing.

I would be pissed if they drafted Ertz at 34, to be honest. We don't need depth at DL (actually we do...but not as bad as), we need a talented heir apparent to JS. The longer we wait, the more warts show up on the remaining picks. We cannot get out of this draft without a serious potential replacement for JS. I don't want to have a situation like this year, where we let Goldson walk without a backup plan and seemingly pantshit into a trade-up in order to fill a glaring need. I'm sure that Harbaalke was very high on Reid and he seems to be the kind of player that would fit in our scheme, but that kind of game of roulette is something we cannot afford to play, not when we saw how much JS does for our defense.

To clarify, after reading your post again, I have no problem with the scenario of trading down in the draft a little bit then picking up a 3-4 DE, then trading back up into the 2nd to get Ertz. I just don't see Ertz as being as necessary as the DE, considering the drop-offs.

I'm not sure Ertz would be such a bad pick. Can you imagine the 2-TE scheme Harbaugh loves to run....having Davis and Ertz??? pretty badass if you ask me. That said, I don't want Ertz at 34.

I get it but I see Ertz as more of a luxury pick then severe need. There are still quite a few TE out there like Escobar that would fit nicely in our system. Our top need IMO is still at DE.

I'm not sure it has to be a DE. John Jenkins or Jesse Williams would be great pickups to fill the void left by Soap and Jean-Francois. You then have Dorsey to sub in to keep those guys fresh along with Dobbs and Ian. Dobbs looked really good last pre-season so hopefully that translates into playing time this year as the 49ers look to rotate their linemen more often.

BTW.....fuck your Spurs! Lol.....my wife is a diehard Spurs fan and I'm a diehard Laker fan. Anyway, I agree about DE. I wouldn't mind Tank at 34. Just hope his injury doesn't effect his NFL career. That said, we have a pretty good track record taking chances on players who have had major injuries in college :) RB might not seem like a pressing need.....but all it takes is for Hunter not being the same and Gore going down with an injury. Lacy and Ball are still there. If we could get Ball in the 3rd I'd be happy.

How would you guys feel about Lacy? Seriously....who knows how K Hunter will come back from that injury. And either way...Gore isn't gonna be around forever.

Eddie Lacy - RB - Player

According to The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, teams are "scared off" by Alabama RB Eddie Lacy's injury history.

Jesse Williams - DL - Crimson

Tide Dallas Cowboys writer Bryan Broaddus suggested Alabama DL Jesse Williams is dealing with a knee issue.

Williams missed the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine after the BCS Championship game, but he did work out during the school's pro day. He didn't miss any games, but Williams was seen favoring his knee in a few games. There have been a lack of team visits, which could be related to the medical question, but Williams can play nose tackle or five technique.

I've seen a lot of EJ in the past 4 years. He had redshirted his true freshman year, so that means he has been in college for a total of 5 years. He should not still be considered a "raw prospect". I mean, a little to some extent but at this point, it should not have to be needing "major work". As an FSU fan, I'm cheering for him to have success in the league but I don't see him ever developing to be anything special. My sincere belief is that teams are desperately looking for the next Colin. Which is why he got drafted so high.

E.J. Manuel - QB - Bills

The Sideline View's Adam Caplan compares new Bills QB E.J. Manuel to Jake Locker.

Caplan acknowledges Manuel's "big arm," high character and mobility, but believes his mechanics need "major work." Manuel's extremely raw mechanics are the main reason many observers expect him to be the rare first-round QB to begin his career on the bench. The Bills made one of the biggest boom or bust picks of round one.
