it's going to be really hot today in arizona. heck, it's 103 where i live here in WA. i feel like the m's usually play better in the heat, so let's see where this goes.
Late to respond on this, but the stadium has a (always closed) roof, and it is air conditioned. I was at the 1st two games of the series... sorry, guys :noidea:

I figure I'll hang in as a fan through the 2 series coming up at home against the guardians and red sox.

they need to win both of these series or there's really no hope for the team, imo. the schedule for the next couple months is just too brutal.

starting on the 20th of this month, besides they AS break, they get only ONE off day until August 11.

speaking of schedules, the last time i looked the m's were in the middle for SOS and the Astros were at the top of the list for easiest schedule for the remainder of the season. anything can happen, but this is just really dark for the m's.

They aren’t really a poverty franchise though. There is zero reason with close to $150 million payroll Jerry has a team that has had no chance at a WS. He has had cheap young talent for 3 years, he just spends the rest horribly or does stupid stuff like trading Ray for Haniger.

Does anyone really think ownership is going to trust Jerry with more money. He has literally set close to $20 million on fire this season and thus far looks like he made a terrible choice in the huge extension for Julio instead just letting him hit arbitration. Jerry is good at drafting but has been a poor steward of ownerships money
They may not be a poverty franchise as they can spend money if they want to. But they sure are behaving like one for most of their existence.

They've managed 2 hits once through the lineup against a guy with a 6.62 ERA

We've ran out of words for describing just how bad this team is at hitting.

I’m not defending ownership, even though I somewhat do, I just think they have given plenty of money to Jerry to have won a World Series by now when he had 4 cheap young pitchers and 2 top tier position players who were making dirt. Jerry just gave the wrong people money and made trades that didn’t work out. If I was him, if my phone showed a Tampa or Phoenix area code I’d blocked it.

lol

Gave up a grand slam to go from 2 runs up, to 2 runs down and likely the sweep.

I'd be OK if they didn't win another series through the break.

We keep going in this endless cycle where they win just barely enough to keep justifying staying with the program.

Let it burn all the way to the ground. Fully in ashes.

MAYBE it will cause real change.

Maybe Bezo’s or Gate’s ex wives will buy the team

The choke was inevitable.

It just seemed, well, not really ironic, just fitting at the hands of Suarez.

That's assuming we're capable of winning ANYTHING anymore up to that point.

nothing a "team meeting" can't fix.

it's all good.
They've done team meetings before; NOTHING gets through to them.

What about Raleigh challenging everyone else to step up?

the constant in this team being awful has been ownership.

no matter the ownership group and no matter the decade, they just hire GM's to toe the company line with the media until it stops working and then they get fired, and it all starts over again.

the idea that any GM is going to come in and change 5 decades of institutional incompetence is delusional. it's surreal that anybody keeps it up. they'll just hire another Jerry or even worse promote form within.

it's why i wish they'd just can Jerry already so people with short memories will wake up and figure out that changing the GM is not going to fix a fucking thing. it's going to happen within a month, i'm betting, because they're fresh out of managers to fire.

But I disagree with that. Woody Woodward was able do what he wanted, just made some dumb trades, Pat Gillick was able to, but gave no effort into the farm system, Bavasi and Jack Z neither should have been GM and were able to get them to open the check book. The narrative around them being cheap really started with Jerry with his press conference when he was hired talking about how they were going to spend then his rebuild press conference. They’ve never been the Yankees but they’ve also never been the A’s or Rays. They need a GM who in between Gillick’s burn down the farm system for the now and Jerry’s years of control is more important than talent.

aww they didn't set the record for 4 games in a row with however many hits compared to runs.

was hoping they could at least achieve that!

Team meeting for motivation, and then cut some salary to send a clear message, you play well, we’re gonna trade you for prospects, and you’ll miss out on all the championships !

"We cut Taveras! Did that scare you?!??!? It better have! We aren't messin' around!"

Side note: Chase Field is one of the top 7 hitter's parks in MLB and our pitching staff sucks this year. We never had a chance. I mean, Kryst, even Solano hit a homer here.
