He was given 5 years in Chicago, had a 62 win season , great record, no ring

He was given 3 in minn not so good record , no ring

Knicks 5 years , good record , no ring

His track record really isn’t that great considering all
You have to consider what he has been given to work with.
By this ridiculous measure there have been very few successful coaches in NBA history.

How many winds did Cleveland and Boston have this season? How many 60+ win teams don’t get a ring?
You are reaching.

Y'all leave Pasta alone, he was the only one who called that Thibs would be fired if they didn't make the finals, and all y'all got is, "yeah, well, it wasn't the right move"

That 62 win team lost in the conference finals to a 58 win team that had LeBron, Wade, and Bosh
If you really count that against his coaching there is nothing that can help you

To be fair, Pasta predicting it is part of how we know it was a bad move.

Seriously though, as of now, it's bad move because it appears to have been made to appease certain part of the fan base. It was the first year with this roster construction and he got them to the ECF for the first time in what? 25 years?

This roster actually overachieved based on what was expected from them when the season began.

While it appears to be a bad move right now, that can change if they make the right hire. Given their history under Dolan...it seems unlikely that they will make the right hire.

The new GM Dolan put in place has been doing a good job though. He’s pretty handcuffed player-wise due to past GMs, so maybe he decided to strike while he has a good shot of getting a championship winner in Malone.

But he should remember past results do not ensure future success: see Rivers, Doc.

And they were not the best team in the Eastern Conference for those years.

That was the Heat.

Also didn’t help their chances when Derrick Rose injured himself in the playoffs.

He's been saying for years fire Thibbs.

He's the only coach that's had success in N.Y. this century.

Gonna be interesting to see who replaces him.

I don’t know everything.

It just seems like it to you because you know so little.

Very few objective people thought the Bulls were going to beat the Heat in 2011. That team defined the term “superteam”.

Almost Every regular poster here knows 2011. It was the year after the decision. The start of LeBron’s 8 year run of winning the East.

So yes. Common knowledge that the Heat were the best in the East that year.

Sorry if you can’t keep up.

How can you say you need more depth and then turn around and say the coach plays his starters too much? How else do you try to win if you don’t have depth?

This year they finally had some depth but had rotating injury issues with one player or another that limited their use.

Personally, I would have given Thibs another year of working with the same core of guys, hope for better health, and seen in they could get further. But the Knicks clearly felt it was time to move, maybe because Malone and his championship in hand is available now. Coaches who have won it all aren’t available often.
I was saying that's why he was fired. We actually did have some depth this season. Though not a stellar bench, but it got better when Robinson came back. Of course, he barely uses them anyway(other than Robinson) which I think pissed off the front office. Thibs was running our starters into the ground with all the minutes he played them which isn't sustainable over the long term.
