ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the proposed ban of the tush push did not receive enough votes at the NFL owners’ meeting.
It was widely believed that the play was on the chopping block this week, but the Eagles pulled out all the stops, including flying in Jason Kelce for the meetings, to save their free touchdown play. Even after taking things to a second, more private session for further discussion, the ban did not receive the required 24 votes to pass. The ban could have shifted a few touchdowns from Jalen Hurts to Saquon Barkley, but the Eagles were always going to be the league’s best team in short-yardage situations. Hurts has at least 13 rushing touchdowns in each of the past three seasons. He remains a top-five fantasy quarterback with the tush push still in the playbook

They can't bring this crap up for a vote every year. They did it twice and it failed twice. There should be a rule like a three strikes and you're out rule or something. It gets annoying

The Packers will now reportedly turn their attention to banning stiff arms. Very dangerous to the defense, they say.

If the offense pushes the ball ten yards up and the defense ends the push and reverses it twelve yards back, does it result in a two yard loss? Are they going to allow the defense to carry the ball runner all the way back for a safety now? When did rugby creep into footbal???

Jerry should consider having this one banned… it’d suit me.

This isn’t rugby. Do you even know football if you don’t understand how forward progress works?

Hey, if the offense can push a guy forward as far as they can, why can't the defense push the runner back into the endzone? Do away with forward progress and make it equitable!!!

Doesn’t want football to approximate rugby
Also wants to throw out a major rule that is used to spot the football

What a load of garbage. People just want defense to have the same shot as offense.

Eagles offense would still be rockstars with a normal QB sneak
Everybody can use the tush push. Many have tried but only the Eagles have perfected it. It’s science.

Apparently 22 voted to ban the play but the NFL requires 24 out of 32 votes to ban it. Still, the vote number suggests a likely rule change in the not too distant future.

For clarity i'm against the offense being able to pull, push, or similarly assist the ball-carrier. I'm not particularly bothered by the safety implications or which teams are good at it. For me it detracts from the NFL as a spectacle. I want to see speed, skill, power, or trickery. This play isn't that.

So they’re gonna try and ban it a 3rd time?

He reportedly got a little carried away with the wet dream stuff and Troy Vincent of the league office (a former Eagle and Philly high school star) had to tell him that wasn't politically correct, noting there were women present.

I’m glad it stays. I want to see what teams come up with to stop it, also you know who’s getting the ball in that situation, punish him! I’d rather hurts get his one yard on 4th rather than SB getting about 50

3rd, 4th, whatever. There isn't strong support for assisting the ball-carrier. It's possible some of those that didn't vote to change the rule this year are of a mind to not change things until they're literally forced into it. I don't see those who voted for change now altering their opinion any time soon so i'd bet on an amendment passing next season. It took a few years to ban the hip-drop tackle.

This thread is the perfect reminder of how unbearably awful Philly fans can be. As a nation, we need to make sure they never win anything ever again. Hopefully trump can accomplish this with some precision drone strikes.
