I Disagreed
The play was illegal for years and should again
Has nothing to do with the Eagles.
Players should not be allowed to push a player from behind football is not rugby

This.

Offensive lineman have finally after almost 15 years of the rule change are finally being coached to go and smack the ball carrier forward when they hit a standstill. That used to be illegal. And it should be again.

It is just such a dangerous play.

And with that rule change, the sneak like the Eagles made famous this year would be banned too.

I would be fine leaving the sneak rule in effect as long as they took away doing the same downfield. Maybe something to the effect that you can only push the ball carrier inside the LOS box.

The physics are certainly different when Chris Jones can catch a guy but cant really get a good hit on him. I still think its an injury risk if LBers know they cant make a play in time then theyll just hit the QB full force. The playbook against Cam Newton was to just keep on hitting him. Defensive linemen will 'fall' on Hurts ankles.
Be honest. You think this way about sneak because Mahomes was injured on QB sneak. That was a freak occurrence and quite honestly he isn’t good at it (he’s good at a ton of things though, don’t get me wrong). I’m not going to be scared off of a high percentage play because I’m scared of people playing dirty football.

The Eagles may be cautious with when they run sneaks with Hurts, if he signs a big deal, but I fully expect them to continue to use him as a dual threat QB. It would be asinine to pay him and not do that--that's what makes him a special player.

I think what’s most likely is a change to the formation being made illegal more so than a change to the push the pile allowance. It’s really difficult to enforce. A blocker can contact a tackler wrapped up with a ball carrier. How do you legislate he’s attempting to push the runner and not trying to block the tackler?

Well, yeah. Ive also seen a player fall on Mahomes ankle in the playoffs. Again, though, Cam Newton's career was short.

I do think the QB sneak is seen by many NFL players as the hardest play to stop.

It is flat out amazing how you can post something and by the second sentence, really say nothing at all.

however, so noted, the QB sneak is what makes him a "special player".

You may lack reading comprehension, but dual threat QB means more than QB sneaks.

What's flat-out amazing is how you can manage to say something personal after everything I post. You have issues!

no sir...I don't like you. Never have, you instigate and cry foul.
I think you are like most other football fans but think way to highly of yourself in that regards. Why are the eagle posters so full of themselves while showing insecurities? Shit, coach works all day and still says shit like they won't change the direct push from behind, they will make a formation rule change first.

BTW...I also fully understand dual threat and Hurts is special after last season was my comprehension. Best dual threat in football and after one season as well is how I read it. Enlighten me.

The play in the SB where Hurts rolls out to avoid the blitz and fires a perfect pass is what makes him a special player imo. Only a couple of players in the league that can do that imo.

I do wonder if teams will start putting in special NT type of players on the roster. There aren't many in the league and I suspect if a team has a Jordan Davis(ish) player then Hurts wont sneak but Im guessing at least half of the league doesnt have a good run stuffing DT

I have no interest in getting into a personal beef with you and derailing this thread, in which people have been talking about football stuff respectfully.

You're back on ignore for me, because I tried actually talking to you and it's useless.

I remember saying in the SB thread after watching the Eagles use this push play to great success that the rest of the league will likely come up with their own versions. Unless some kind of rule eliminates this type of play, I'll stand by that prediction.

Disagree. The rule had been against this for decades, needs to return. The force of the ball carrier should be his alone, not his offensive line behind him. Why not just have the offensive lineman carry the ball then?
Like refrigerator Perry?
You are old enough to remember. I'm going to assume you are joking!

Just my opinion but I think the play is injury inducing and it's aesthetically ugly. The NFL would be better without it. Teams that were successful with it would have been successful without it. This isn't a criticism of teams that have used it and if the NFL chooses to keep it, so be it. Differing opinions are perfectly valid.
