Not bad. The salary cap and QB contracts will continue to rise. This will be just an average QB contract in a couple of years.

It's the going rate for QBs of his level so the contract is about what I expected. The devil is going to be in the details though so we'll see how the numbers actually shake out.

As a 9ers fan there was certainly times he could've and needed to play better but he still put up pretty good numbers. The team had plenty of other major issues and he wasn't towards the top of those issues.

Since he's been the starter he's just been weirdly saddled with crazy expectations. Like if he's not completing deep passes to a triple-covered UDFA it doesn't count for him. Or can he carry a team with less talent which isn't an unfair question but this past Super Bowl should've proved that a QB can only carry a team so much.

CMC is really the engine that makes that offense go.

When he’s healthy, they are dynamic. When he is not, the offense struggles.

Losing Deebo will hurt the offense as well.

Purdy is good, but he’s not the type of QB to elevate other players. But, he is in the right system, so they have that going for him.

And, Denver “recovered” from Wilson because they had a high draft pick to get a good rookie QB that happened to be in a loaded class.

Chances are, the 49ers aren’t going to be picking that high any time soon. And, even if they were, with what they are paying Purdy, chances are they aren’t taking a QB unless they were ready to write him off and eat a lot of dead money ( just like the Broncos did ).

Losing Deebo will actually be a benefit to the offense. Deebo today isn't 2021 Deebo.

I won't discount him working out like crazy and having a good 1st year with the Commanders but the 9ers offense was simply a lot better the last two games when the featured Pearsall over Deebo.

He did nothing when the ball was handed off to him and he struggled to get separation against linebackers. The explosiveness is still there at times which is why I don't think he'll be a bust with the Commanders but he's a far cry from 2021 Deebo where he was a monster with the ball in his hand especially with some space.

ALL in favor of that one as a Seahawks fan. Hey props to the 49ers if he pans out or for that late round of a pick to get paid, but I think that's the end of the 9ers after this year. Their draft picks were hardly impressive. Rams/Hawks take over the division from here.

A+ grade all the way (as a Hawks fan)
C- grade as a general fan.

Guy had one GOOD season with a completely stacked team and three teams rebuilding in the division. How that warrants that money is RIDICULOUS.

I know the 49ers fans left on this forum (most have been banned) will let me hear it, but yah. This is baffling. MAYBE it's incentive based. I guess I should consider that first.
Rams, maybe but certainly nothing the Seahawks did made them any better

lol okay.

By that logic, what did the Rams do to make them any better?

They didn’t kill themselves by giving away their qb and two best receivers like the Seahawks did. ESPN Bets has the Rams as the second pick to win theNFC and the 49ers 4th; granted its most likely because of the ridiculously easy schedule they have, but the Seahawks weren’t even mentioned

Geno Smith IMO was a good QB, but are they really going to a lesser one? I mean we'll see... JSN emerged as Seattle's best WR. Lockett fell off big time and DK got super mopey, quit on the team, started literally losing games (with turnovers/fumbles), and wasn't even that big of a factor the 2nd half... JSN led the team in everything receiving wise and had his best game when DK went out... and he would've had another 50 yards and a TD if the refs weren't up their ass.

I see you're a new member and from Idaho - although your name is BostonBeans lol (welcome btw!)... Anyway, if you live in Idaho now are you a Seahawks fan? Because it's baffling to me you'd give that statement (lost two best receivers and act like they didn't replace Geno at all).

I'm sure you posted this the week Geno first became the Seahawk QB.

rolling up pant legs

Nope...

So, PDAY, I'd appreciate you have a little football knowledge. Geno came into Seattle as Wilson's backup for TWO years before becoming the full time starter. I was whatever at the time he came into Seattle because who cares? We had Wilson.

That said, when Geno was announced as the starter I think most Seattle fans were like, "Oh God" BUT he did show some decent things in 2021 when Wilson was out and before he was ultimately traded.

End of day with SEATTLE at least, Geno was I'd argue a 'good' QB. Not elite, not going to carry a team on his own to a Super Bowl... but did some good stuff. After almost a decade he seemed to pull it together - good for him.

So not sure what you're getting at here... and it doesn't matter whether your pants or rolled up or not, I can still see you in the water... wtf?

Good post. It’s what the market is and if the team believes they found their guy, they pay. It’s not like there a big pool of great QBs out there.

Haven’t read the comments, but here’s my brief thoughts.

1) I hate this deal for SF. Purdy is a decent-good QB that was propped up by a sick supporting cast IMO.

2) In this current player market, I’m not sure what else they could have done.

3) They are not a contender with this roster.
