I would be more worried if they didn't have a true leader in the clubhouse **cough cough** like Watson

Flacco will keep the boys in check. If the rookie flops they can cut his ass...they have 2 1st's next year to get it wrong again
That really is the major difference. Flacco is at least that veteran who can win games when needed.

Honestly - this is going to be fascinating to watch.

Pickett has a 2 year deal, so he's not going anywhere. You're not cutting a 3rd round pick...so DG is staying. So, it kind of comes down to Flacco vs Sanders...

You assume, for the moment, Flacco is going to be getting 1A or at least 1B reps. Competing for the starting spot with Pickett. How many snaps does that leave for DG, and of course SS? Not a lot, even in the pre-season. Would it really come down to Flacco competing, not just for being the starter, but then also for his roster spot life? If you are Flacco, at this point - are you "OK" with competing for a roster spot? It's one thing to not start, but to not be on the roster...could that change things?

Would the Browns carry 4 QB's? Watson will likely end up on IR for the full season, so that won't really come into play...

This, of course, before any kind of drama with Sanders, his camp, his Dad, or Dion Johnson who was just signed...this is what Hard Knocks was created for...

Great points. At this point and time it looks like SS is no more than a practice squad player. Unless something changes, I guarantee nearing the end of camp they will be looking for a trade partner for him.

They should make it like Squid Game where the survivor is the starting QB……

The funny thing that nobody is mentioning is that in reality, they drafted 3 QBs this year... They traded away a 5th Rd pick for Pickett.

They've created a really weird situation for themselves. Flacco is a cheap veteran that is likely to stick around. Pickett seems like the likely odd man out...

I'd agree, but they also signed Pickett to a 2 year deal...AND as you said, traded a pick...that's money and pick(s)...

But, that just underscores how messed up the entire situation is going into camp. Assuming everyone stays healthy...I just don't know how you find enough snaps to even evaluate enough guys...I mean, if they were going to move on from Flacco - it would make 100% more sense to let him go now. Not sure what, if anything, they would owe him - but it would allow them to better divide up the snaps in camp and pre-season, you end up with a clear #1 in Pickett, and you have a clear battle for #2 between DG/SS with the loser ending up as QB3.

If they hold on to everyone ...?????

Maybe Pickett gets traded back to the Steelers?

Flacco was signed $4.25m contract, $3m guaranteed... Like throwing away a vet min contract.

I also stand corrected...I thought Pickett was on a 2 year deal, but it is just this year at $2.6M. So, in effect, it would be cheaper to cut Pickett, but also a wasted draft pick as well...

The more you try and make sense out of this situation - the more you are just left scratching your head...

Didn't they also give up Dorian Thompson-Robinson for Pickett in that trade?

I truly believe the posters on this thread, saturated in bourbon, could make better decisions than the Browns leadership…..
