The winning percentage is nothing special to me, some coaches play in weaker divisions than others. It is amazing what a bad division can do for a decent coach.
Division strength changes so much from year to year, though.

Does it though? For example, since 2000 the AFC East has mostly been one top level team and 3 terrible franchises that couldn’t get out of their own way. Some divisions have fluctuation but if you look at big windows they largely tell a consistent story that may occur 15-19 times out of 25.

Hell the AFC East was mostly dog shit for Brady's career.

Last season was the first year the AFC West was competitive during Mahomes era. Sure you have the can't win a playoff game Chargers win double digit games a few years but that is it.

Most divisions have a “story” that has been established over 20-25 years.

That is one hell of a competitive advantage to have it assures you a good chance to claim home firld throughout the postseason.

Tom Brady would have wrecked any division. It's a bad argument imo.

He probably would. That doesn’t change what the Dolphins Bills and Jets were for most of Brady’s career.
Didn't the Dolphins play Brady better than almost anyone?

So the Dolphins have gone 0-4 against the Bills the past two seasons but 19-12 against everyone else and thats with Tua missing games. They're a great example of a team beating up on weaker teams but....19-12 isn't a weaker team relative to the rest of the NFL.

An even better way to look at this: the NFC North last year was the best conference ever in the regular season. Didn't matter squat in the playoffs.

Hey the Jets contributed! They created one of if not the biggest memes in football history with Captain Butt Fumble. The tuck rule isn't even on the same tier.

In the future, AI will have no idea how to process that the Jets made the AFC Championship game twice in that era

I dont think that division was as bad as its being painted here

Yah perhaps.. it was a perfect blend at the time for the Pats to create the ultimate team.

Brady might as well have been a second coach on the field. HIs pre-snap readability was the best in NFL QB history IMO. He was so difficult to scheme against and disrupt with pre-snap adjustments, etc. I think Manning had more raw talent and his audibles confused everyone (lol) but Brady's audibles and adjustments I think were more calculated.

And then you had BB who pretty much always kept them in the game with a good defensive approach and general smart decisions.

The numbers don't back that up. The Patriots with Brady at QB were a juggernaut. However, the Patriots had a slightly lower win percentage against AFC East opponents than they did against the other 28 teams combined. Those 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place AFC East teams still combined for a win percentage bettering 40% over 20ish years, which compares well to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place team combined records of other divisions. It's even stronger when you consider those other divisions weren't playing 6 games against the Patriots every year.

I'm pretty sure the weakest division by total wins since the league went to 4 divisions per conference has been the AFC South. Since 2000 the NFC East hasn't been good overall either. Then again it produced 4 Super Bowl wins.

What's sad about Gurley's downfall?

Josh Gordon is obviously sadder. I don't feel sad about Ruggs' downfall, it was richly deserved. (And if he's there, where's Aaron Hernandez?)

Vince Young.

Vince Young couldn't get out of his own way. He'd buy half the seats in the cabin on commercial flights so that he wouldn't have to sit near anyone.

In his rookie season with Tennessee, he was playing so bad against Jacksonville that the opposing players were trying to talk him down and telling him that it wasn't that bad and will get better.

He even got into a fight over a guy taunting him with the "Hook Em' Horns" upside down. (This is separate from the fight he was in last year in which he was the victim of a total sucker punch.)

When he got to the Eagles, he was a backup to Vick and declared them "The Dream Team".

He is a sad story, but most of it was his own doing.
