Dylan Couzens made his way to the Senators from Buffalo.

Why weren't we able to get him with all of our draft capital and available players?
Maybe this is a clear cut example of why players are NOT signing with the flyers because they don't want to go to Philadelphia and play for the miserable culture that exists there.

That feeling could be factoring into guys' decisions to sign with the Flyers. But not in this case. Cozens doesn't have a no trade clause until 2027 and was simply traded from Buffalo to Ottawa. He had no control over it.

On this particular case, Buffalo either didn't like the Flyers offer as much, or the Flyers weren't interested. Flyers probably could've offered something similar to what the Sabres got, that was a weird trade by them. So I'm guessing the Flyers just weren't interested.

If we weren't interested in a Couzens our management needs to have their heads examined.

Not really. This is his 5th season in the Nhl and he's still only projected as a 2nd line forward. He had one great year in '22-'23, got a massive, 7 year, $50 million contract from the Sabres and has since regressed two straight years.

He'll probably do just fine in Ottawa, but he's surrounded with a lot more talent suddenly too. Again, regardless of whether we like him, a 2nd line center doesn't move the needle enough for us. That and this kid is already making pretty big money. If he flops or never hits 60 points again, is that a guy we really want at $7.1 million per for 5 more seasons!? And yes, he has a modified, no-trade clause for the last 3 years of his deal.

I would rather try to get definitive (or even potential) top line guys via the draft or trade. Higher risk, sure, but also higher reward. We have to hit a few home runs.

You know once we lose a few more we will go on a run towards the end just to give us an 9-12th pick instead of a top 5.
Almost funny, but not gonna happen, truly. Look at the gauntlet we have to run in the next two weeks. Tampa (x2), Carolina, Wash, Dallas and Toronto. Chicago is the only opponent we have ranked outside the top 2 or 3 of their division. All of these other teams are battling for home ice in the playoffs and winning often right now too.

Shitsburgh has already caught us. Nashville is coming (4 straight wins and 2 fewer games played). Seattle just beat us and are only 4 points back with a game in hand. We're going to fall for awhile here.
