Pretty sure we could have signed the best out there for 15 million for a season.

We Im pretty sure you cant get the best olineman out there for 15 mill, but I get what youre saying.......

Maybe stating the obvious, but my guess is Ben Johnson had a say in this trade too.

Ok...So that's one. Now the C from Atlanta and the kid from LSU at guard and then we're off.

There is at least a chance Bears view Jackson as the center.

I wonder if he’s seen as a starter here or not.

If they traded for a guy they now owe 17 million too and see him as the backup...we have bigger problems than I suspected.

Or 9 million. Still too much if you think he won't start and you have 3 openings on your line.

He was a pro bowl injury replacement. We had Trubisky in the pro bowl....

The problem is not the sixth round pick (Fields pick maybe?) The problem is his cap hit this season is 15 million. Two more years of contract at 9 million. So even if he is released, the number is still 15. Pretty sure we could have signed the best out there for 15 million for a season.

This is correct.

Top ten ends with 3 guys making 16 million a year, but yeah, I guess whoever signs a contract this year will want to be the highest paid guard in the NFL.

I misread you're post......I was actually thinking tackles, not guards.....but I can see a guard or two getting 20+ mill per......

Trading for Joe Thuney. What did we give up is what I'm trying to figure out.

Looks like a 4th rounder?

It's going to happen...If we sign this Center, I'm going to believe again. And then we're going to go 6-11. Goddamnit.

So last year we signed the Rams old center, now we sign their old guard. (I actually saw a picture of Johnson today snapping the football).
Now KC has developed a new guard behind Thuney and made him available to save cap money.

Its sad that this is where we are, buying expensive used trucks because our drafts for the O line have been shit.

Big upgrade, could be a big upgrade at RB with 10, but there needs to be a plan to replace these guys in the next year or two.

Thuney was voted team MVP of the Chiefs by his teammates and was an all-pro last season. Played both guard and tackle. I don't know what more you could want in a player. I understand he isn't young any longer, but this take is trash.

"KC has developed a new guard behind Thuney" - who is this "new guard"? Hmm. Me thinks you're making things up again!

(Hurry! Run to the KC depth chart to find the name of some random, young backup interior O-lineman last season that you can pass off as this "mysterous player" you've invented!)

LOL.
LOL, what is the lifespan of an interior offensive lineman? I remember running backs was like 3.5 years. I mean, choose your source, but Average Career Length Of An NFL Player – American Sports Planet has offensive linemen at 3.8 years, This guy past his rookie contract and is into his extension, so thats already 6.

Sure, for the ones that are one and done there are those that last a decade, so old is on the downside. see Nate Davis.

Seems like LA and KC have found a way to be able to develop their replacements and deemed these as replaceable.

Poles had too many years to be empty handed at the line of scrimmage and the ones we have are constantly replaced by a bigger name with the same results. Every year is closer to Caleb making 70 million a year.

Thuney is a great signing, but still not a long term answer.

The average career length is a skewed number because of the sheer number of players that don’t stick either due to injury or not being good enough.

At 28 and established player has a lot of career ahead of them typically.

In 2 years justa and Doug Kramer are gonna make you pay for this statement.

I'm more and more liking the Thuney trade. Cost us just a '26 4th rounder. Not only is he still considered one of the best guards in the league, he's missed a whopping total of 2 games during his 9 year career. In NFL terms that is the very definition of an ironman. Granted, he's technically a rental and he's not a long term solution, but I'm guessing Poles has every intention of extending his contract for two or three years.

As for Jackson, I'm holding off doing any sort of happy dance until it's certain he's ready to go from day one. If he is, then he's way more than worth a 6th round gimme pick. And if things don't work out, he can be cut next year with a $0 cap hit. Poles did well on these two trades.

I'm only posting this link from CBS Sports because the Bears are listed as one of the teams who might be a landing spot for Bosa:

Due to his veteran status, I think his release makes Bosa a free agent, altho I thought he was under contract thru this season. So I really don't know how much a team would have to fork out due to that contract or if they can sign him for any X amount of money. Anyway, his injury history suggests that it might be a role of the dice in paying him what I guess would be some major bucks for his services. He's a 9 year vet entering his age 30 season, yet there have been only 2 seasons when he played in all the games. In the last 3 years he's appeared in just 28 of 51 regular season games, altho in fairness those games have been fairly productive, having racked up 9 sacks an 4 forced fumbles. Assuming he'd even be interested in signing with the Bears, I'd hope that Poles would make it an incentive heavy contract with a one year out if needed.
