Is there something about Vlad Jr that reminds you of Prince Fielder? Just curious since he's coming off a good year.
following a couple of so-so years that caused Toronto to back off contract extension talks.

Will he age well? Undetermined
Yeah, that's the question. Does he age like his dad and be ready to retire at 36, or does he age like the guy he was compared to early on, Miguel Cabrera, and last until he is 40? He is young enough where a 10-year deal takes him through age 36, but he may get more years than that. Then again, almost none of these longterm deals age well, and everyone expects that. That will be the case for Semien and Seager, I imagine.

Even in those 2 years he averaged 29 HR. At least he will have another year to show if the 2024 season was just a temporary improvement or not before he hits free agency.

On one hand we have good pitchers being developed so it frees up money plus those expiring money

But that takes away closer money. lol
Pretty hesitant to do a 10’year contract. Worry about bat speed

Plus wonder how Jake B does. He might fit bill for a better price

Keeping an open mind. Would have loved the trade earlier

Wish we would develop some players in the minors who have a high ceiling but are bottle-necked at their position to become familiar with playing 1b.

From Evan Grant:

Kohl Drake has a stiff back and is being held out of throwing.

Heaney signs a one year deal with the Pirates. Only $5.25 million.

Do you think for that price it would have been worth signing him to pitch in the pen?

It sure would have. And he would have given us the possibility of starting in case of injury. They could have saved $10 million by signing him and trading Mahle. That would most likely have allowed them to sign Robertson as well.

Frim Shawn McFarland:

Andrew Heaney, imo, was one of the more under-appreciated Rangers of the last two years. He started 59 games, never went on the IL, moved the 'pen when needed, set an AL record for consecutive K's (remember that?) and always gave honest, genuine, thoughtful insight.

From Hector Gomez:

SOURCE: #Mets, #Rangers, #Padres, #Braves and #Brewers are showing interest in Jose Quintana, who was close to reaching an agreement with the #Pirates, but he declined their offer.

Quintana is the best starting pitcher free agent available.

But they wont pay to sign a closer or make some moves to free up $ to sign a closer. The logic escapes me here...?
