Just have him shadow Dan all game.

Nothing ever needs to said.

But when it’s 4th down and you need points, Dan is required to look Jim in the eyes.
If he blinks that means you better fucking not do it bro. No blinks means he is Jim Caldwell still

You too......??

I scream at the tv every game.....

Yesterdays KC/Baltimore game......the two penalties just before the half, rough ing Mahomes with that about took his head off and the one before that(escapes my mind) that gave KC a fg.....
Zays dumbness of the taunting and stretching for the td made me hoarse......

My wife tells me " you know they cant hear you"

I know,but it realeases my anger......lol

Ravens had two 15 yard penalties on KC last drive in 1st half that was FG
  • Van Noy - head butt to someone right in front of the referee well after play over
  • Jones roughing the passer on Mahomes... no way that one was not getting called, basically used his hand as club right across his face
Felt like Ravens were in semi meltdown on that defensive series.

Fortunately for Ravens Smith got back to back holding calls... took a TD off the board.

He wasn’t a head coach though. He didn’t get that power until Detroit hired him. The hiring was highly criticized at the time too. If I recall correctly, most people thought he didn’t have enough experience to be a head coach.
He was Miami’s acting HC before ever got to the Saints.

The way I see 4th down decisions is risk vs reward so the potential payoff better be worth what happens if you crap out.

The first one I'm fine with. I think it's easy to look back and say it's dumb but given the state of the game at the time I don't think it was this terrible decision on his part.

You're up 14 and the 9ers haven't show much life at that point so not making the 4th down shouldn't have been a backbreaker for your team. If you convert it and it leads to a TD, it's almost certainly a real knockout blow, and the 9ers likey won't get off the mat. I mean Campbell can't be like "Well I better take the 3 just in case the 9ers get the ball and bounce a ball off a defender's head for Aiyuk to catch for 51 yards that will lead to a TD and we'll get the ball for my RB to fumble on the first play of the drive which will lead to another 9er TD drive."

The second one was the dumb one because the payoff just wasn't there vs the fallout of not making it.

Obviously converting the 4th and ending the drive with a TD would've been awesome but odds are it wouldn't have been a game-ending move since the 9ers still likely have enough time to put together a TD drive to answer it.

Converting and the drive still stalling out makes for an easier FG kick but you also burned time off the clock and left enough time for the 9ers to get in FG range and possibly eat enough clock to make sure you don't have much of a chance to answer if they kick a FG to go ahead.

Compared to the risk it just wasn't worth it.

The worst possible outcome happened and the 9ers scored a TD eating up 4:30 in the process making it a two score game and needing to rely on them screwing up to be able to have enough time to get 10 points. Plan A for the 9ers was to stop you from scoring but Plan B worked out perfectly as if you did score they made sure you burned enough time to make a second score very difficult to pull off.

Even if they didn't score a TD that drive by not tieing the game and leaving them with a 3-point lead takes pressure off them and the offense isn't in a situation where they have to get in FG range so they are in no rush and can play it safe. The 9ers defense knows even if the 9ers offense has to punt they just need to make sure they don't give up a TD as a FG would just tie the game which you don't want still but at least you don't lose the game.

And if the 9ers drive ends in a FG that puts you in needing a TD to win which isn't world-ending since you'd likely have time but you'd still rather have the option to be able to kick a FG if need be to tie and go for a TD to win instead of having to have a TD no matter what.

Also given the fact your team has given up 20 unanswered points it would've been best to take the 3 points to tie the game, settle things down, and give your defense that boost knowing they just need a stop to give their offense a chance to drive and win the game.

Usually, I’m co-signing this perspective in the way people Monday Morning QB. But not in this case. There are still a ton of football fans who haven’t adjusted to the aggressive perspective in the sport and philosophically they’re opposed to going for it in those spots. I bet most of the people here saying the two decisions were bone headed were saying that Sunday in real time as it played out.

Sure Campbell took so questionable gambles that didn't pay off.

But he can't be blamed for the two dropped passed in 3rd by the same Lions wr or the TD pass that went through the hands of another wr in the 4th.
I'll agree, but dropped passes and fumbles happen. Dan CHOSE to pass up on the field goals.

The Lions did what they've done all season...be uber aggressive. It's what got them there, and they stuck with that. No shame. I'd rather lean on the things that got me there than try and change things up.

Ravens got away from who they were, and it cost them in a very winnable game.

I'll say it again. You have big lead, you DON'T pass on the opportunity to increase that lead.
I heard you the first time. I get it. You’re going with the conventional wisdom. That’s not who Dan Campbell is. You would do it differently. Here’s the thing. Campbell has had success as one of 32 people in the world that hold his position. You’re just a no talent Mass Hole.

So say it again…this time it will mean more.
