I am a lawyer, but I probably only know as much as you because I only have a layman's knowledge of the NFL's rules and I am just relying on what I remember hearing during the broadcast. What I remember hearing from the replay official in New York is that they can review a penalty flag in that situation, and that he would have thrown a flag on the Eagles bench if he were a game official, but that if the game official doesn't throw a flag on the Eagles bench, then they can't review the penalty flag issue and they aren't allowed to direct the game refs to throw a flag on the Eagles bench. However, in their review, they do have the authority to eject anyone from the game, which they exercised in this situation.

While the ball carrier is in bounds, A defender can use whatever legal means necessary (no facemask, no horsecollar) to get him either to the ground or out of bounds. So....first, the whistle wasn't blown before Greenlaw started throwing Smith out bounds. Second, It certainly wasn't a hit out bounds, as Smith was in bounds at the time of contact. That is why I believe the first flag on Greenlaw was wrong. From my review of the tape, I don't see how that is disputable. Sure, he and the Philly staffer should've been flagged and ejected for contact on the sideline, but the first flag on Greenlaw was incorrect imo.

They have flagged for slamming a runner to the ground in recent years, but I think the Greenlaw tackle was borderline. Such a tackle usually involves lifting and slamming the runner, but in this instance the runner isn't really lifted IMO. It's another example of the league's pretense of carrying about player safety.

But if Dom didn’t jump into Greenlaw’s face, would any flag have been thrown? I legit a not certain. Even though I am ok with the flag getting thrown on Greenlaw in that situation, Dom instigated and escalated the whole thing.

Yeah, pretty much. Asking me about NFL law is like asking a pediatrician for advice regarding brain surgery.
Well, if the patient in question constantly puts his foot in his mouth…

The flag had nothing to do with Dom. Reactions can draw a flag, but the Dom face off was later.

Another clown comment tossed on the pile of clown comments.
You’re trying to litigate based on what COULD have happened instead of the nothing burger that actually took place. You want to take away a man’s livelihood in disgrace because he tried to separate two players pushing each other. Call me a clown all you like. Your take is so gay it’s got They/Them pronouns now and they have died they’re hair purple.

And big picture…this whole 6 page thread is a gigantic testament to a fan base of pussies that are STILL crying despite winning 42-19. Thanks for willingly walking into that.

Yeah, he's clearly retarded. Took me 6 pages to see it. Now I'm a retard too. He's contagious.

I have specifically said he should not be fired (I could care less if he is fired or not). But he injected himself into a situation that he had no business getting involved in. He should not have sideline access again. Security has no business getting involved with players on the field.

He shouldn’t be suspended. Being ejected from the game was warranted but it should end there. Maybe a fine but definitely not a suspension.
Agreed, the issue is less Greenlaw's punishment as how to prevent what people upthread have talked about, having non-players on the sideline just there to taunt and mess with players on the other team to get them both ejected

I don't think any suspension is needed, but the NFL should ban anyone not directly involved with the game from being near the field the only exception being media, because they do have to be near to do their jobs. Tell fatty to go stand near the fans because thats the job he's there for.
