I said before the season that this defense would be better than last years, but still wouldn't be particularly good. Which is right where we are. The difference is that this year they have been able to get stops when they need them. With last years defense, they would have lost at least one of the last 2 games.

I think part of the problem for the defense, is the offense. They score so fast; the defense doesn't get to rest. At halftime, USC was up 20...but Colorado had run something like 12 more plays and had a nearly 3 minute advantage in time of possession.

The offense losing rhythm didn't help either. Colorado scored 20 straight points without an answer from the offense. Hell, Caleb even chose that stretch to throw his 1st pick of the season.

Well, most importantly.....they got the W.

Was just curious if you thought Grinch was part of the issue.

I’ve told you multiple times, it’s not Grinch. It’s the philosophy that any defensive guy has to put up with.

if they are at 3 or 4 losses when that game gets here then you are correct....if they are only at 2 then you are not

I swear it’s like watching replays. I think Riley could help out the defense but he just hasn’t shown he values that side of the ball. Maybe he will change.

He is, but not as much as some like to claim. Imo, his biggest issue is that gets too "vanilla" with his defense when USC gets a big lead. He goes from playing aggressively to more of a soft zone look. Not exactly a prevent defense, but not really aggressive either.

In the 2nd half, one of the commentators mentioned that USC's defense looked tired and commented about how long they had been on the field.

I was trying to remember the last time I heard that about a defense whose team had a 20 point lead.

He's at least been paying lip service to it. If they just ran the ball a little more, it would help. Between Austin Jones and Marshawn Lloyd, he's got the RB's to do it...

Between Caleb and all of those receivers, I understand the temptation though. lol

LSU and Ole Miss scoring points at will. Reminds me of an old big 12 game when everyone said no defense was being played. The truth is back then the qbs in the big 12 were crazy good and points were going to be scored. We have seen it spread to other conferences and even the nfl to some degree. Yes you need defense, but you have to be able to score first and foremost.
