Yep. Players have such shit leverage in the NFL. They have the worst situation of the 4 majors in sports. They have no guaranteed contracts. Everybody essentially plays on a year to year deal. As soon as you earn your money it makes you likely to get cut. You’re helping me make my argument haha. When a player does have leverage they HAVE to flex because they’re going to get run in every other scenario.

I would let him sit and pay one of the other 8 qualified backs they will have in camp.

Most backs and most situations you would be ok with this. The Giants have zero game breakers at the skill positions other than Barkley. Their weapons are either ass or unproven. The Giants started 7-2 last year but then finished 3-6-1 (including playoffs). They are a threat to lose their momentum in a rebuild.

It’s not 4 years though. It never is. The length of the contract is either a) one year or b) as many years as your dead cap money makes it impossible to cut or trade you. If he was offered 4 it’s more than likely a 2 year deal. If the player is a value and more productive than the salary they stay employed. If he’s not he’s cut or asked to renegotiate for less. The only thing that matters is guaranteed money at signing.
