Remains to be seen what impact this will have on his draft stock.

He's apparently got a warrant out for his arrest now, so I would say his draft stock is about to plunge.

Not gonna lie… I still draft him at 10 if he’s there for the Eagles. He’s talented enough to take the risk.

If he was racing someone who crashed and died, and lied about it he's going to be in legal trouble.

I would be leery of taking him now high, that's for sure. There were already rumblings of supposed character issues with Carter.

They should have more data and information available than we do. I will respect the decision if the Eagles decide he’s a non consideration.

This seems like one of those things were he should either still go top 5 or maybe go to prison. I dont think this is a 'gas mask' type of event. This at least initially sounds way worse.

Have to admit, I don’t really understand the legal code on this issue and what he faces if he is convicted. My guess is that he would be looking at the upper end of the range because the actions resulted in two deaths.

Yeah, Im not really one to jump to conclusions so ill let it play out but if there is a major investigation then he might as well skip the draft. If it isnt then...well...maybe you see him drop a bit.

He was pretty much seen as having the best film in the class. Already reported to have character and maybe work ethic issues. Even if he walks away from this without legal issues Id imagine at best he is the 3rd defensive player off the board. So...future Raider?

"Reports indicate excessive speed and alcohol were involved in the crash, which has been characterized as a street racing incident."

Police reports site factore such as speeding or alcohol. They are "check boxes" that are checked - even if it was not the suspect.

We still do not know anything. Definitely not a good look and his attorney would tell him not to talk to the media.....

Police are now also alleging the staffer who was driving the car that crashed, Chandler LeCroy, had a blood alcohol concentration twice the legal limit when the incident occurred.

Perhaps more than any other team, Carter has been linked with the Bears with respect to the coming draft, even in some scenarios which have the Bears trading down. Something tells me he's about to be unlinked.

Similar to Collins several years ago.

Went from a 1st round pick to undrafted.

From the Athens-Clarke County Police:

“The investigation found that Chandler LeCroy, driver of the 2021 Ford Expedition, and Jalen Carter, driver of a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk, were operating their vehicles in a manner consistent with racing shortly after leaving the downtown Athens area at about 2:30 a.m. The evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists and drove at high rates of speed in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other. Evidence indicated that shortly before the crash the Expedition was traveling at about 104 miles per hour. The toxicology report indicated that LeCroy’s blood alcohol concentration was .197 at the time of the crash. Investigators determined that alcohol impairment, racing, reckless driving and speed were significant contributing factors to the crash.”

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Carter was at the scene of the crash and left before emergency personnel arrived. Per the report, “he gave shifting accounts of the wreck as an Athens police officer questioned him about whether he had been racing the car that crashed” after he returned to the crash scene approximately 90 minutes after it happened. The report notes that Carter was summoned back to the crash scene by Georgia director of player support and operations Bryant Gantt at the request of police after Gantt came to the scene of the crash.

The AJC report notes that police were able to obtain surveillance video from city cameras along the route the vehicles traveled the night of the crash. The crash happened in the early morning hours after Georgia’s national championship celebration and players and members of the recruiting staff were last at a strip club in downtown Athens and heading for a Waffle House when the crash occurred.

The Expedition LeCroy was driving was rented by the university and Georgia officials have told the AJC that she was unauthorized to be driving the vehicle. Linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson was also questioned at the scene of the crash. He was charged last week for reckless driving in a separate January incident.

He's not going undrafted, he will probably still go in round one, c'mon now. I do think this will be like the gas mask, or Warren Sapp's supposed drug issues: something that will cause a consensus top player to drop down.

This is not a crime he will ever do time for. But it raises questions about his character and he will surely drop. He lied to the cops and fled a scene in which some of his teammates died, all to avoid bad publicity and a potential DUI.

It's at a minimum a terrible judgment call that will raise questions about his maturity, but he didn't kill anyone or hit a woman or something.

Not surprising, btw, but Kirby Smart and Georgia look like assholes now, trying to throw Carter under the bus, when they clearly had to know what happened. This all reportedly happened after a championship celebration that involved heavy drinking by players.
