Dave Portnoy is typical of what the world has become. Lane Johnson and Micah Parsons are truly talented people and yet their combined net worth is likely less than Portnoy. not gonna lie- if a Browns player said that to a Steelers player I would not be happy and neither would the rest of the fan base. Maybe it is different for people that actually root for the teams that they grew up geographically attached to and do not just pick and choose teams around the country at a whim.

I cannot imagine Bears fan would be happy if Fields told Rodgers- go win one for the division too etc.

1 is root against the rival at all costs. Which is fine.

2 is once my team is out, rival team doing well makes my team look better. Strong division and such. Their success does not compound my teams failure.

Neither is wrong.

What is wrong is criticizing someone for wishing another athlete well.

Pro rivalries aren’t what they used to be or what some fans still want them to be. These guys know each other and in many cases are former teammates. Contrived hate for a rival isn’t needed.

They can still compete at their best without hating the opponent.
