He would be better off going to Denver than 'Zona. They might be trading Hopkins.

He wants a new deal after missing basically a full season's worth of games in his last 2 years in Arizona? Amazing.

Though make what looked to be the correct call and think we get more than 3. Oh well.....have to say I've never been a fan of the targeting rule other than for the worst of the worst.

I still think that hit on Harrison Jr should been roughing even without targeting. Would've been in the NFL (defenseless receiver), but a different set of rules I guess. You would think protecting the players would be even more important at the college level.

If by coaching you mean being unable to turn 3rd string OL into 1st string? Teams historically slip after a championship, and the Rams had a lot of injuries. They used something like 10 different OL configs through the first 10 weeks.

Did I knock Payton? Again, putting words in my mouth. I merely stated that the difference in Brees' performance from SD to NO that first year was largely due to better OL play (fewer sacks, more pass attempts).
You did knock him....

Here's my two posts below. In which did I knock Payton?

The main differences between Brees' last year in San Diego and his first with Payton in NO are more attempts and better protection.

How many HC succeed coming BACK from a TV job?

Think he was talking to me. Didn't really knock Payton but did wonder what he'd do without an elite, HOF level QB

As for McVay he did manage the worst record ever, I believe, after a title season. Browns had the most or near the most games lost to injury last year and in a tougher division finished 8-9 (not 5-12).

But assuming he comes back he could turn it back around...football a crazy sport sometimes.

Kind of what I thought. A personal foul but not targeting maybe.

Rams lost their QB, both starting WRs, all of the OL at stages (including second team OL), etc. Plus, they lost a starting WR in that Super Bowl, their pro bowl LT to retirement, 3 defensive linemen (including Von Miller) and a starting G to free agency, etc. All while McVay and Donald openly contemplated retirement during contract negotiations.

The Rams finished the season with a waiver wire QB, 3rd/5th/6th WRs, and maybe one starting OL. Rams finished 2-6 after Kupp went out for the year, 2-5 after Stafford.

That is a lot of attrition, not placing their struggles solely at McVay's feet.

No disagreement, but as mentioned we were at or near the top in games lost due to injury in 2021 and even with a hurt and not very good Baker managed to finish 8-9 in a tough division. Didn't have anyone close to Stafford or Kupp at any point during the season (let along having someone like them for 9 and 10 games).

also think McVay could possibly turn it around next season. Though if he would prefer a lucrative TV deal cannot say I'd blame him at all.

Rams also had a 1st place schedule to deal with, for whatever that's worth. Lost 5 key starters before the season even started. It's a bit more than just games lost to injury, of which the Rams were pretty high this year as well. Rams only lost 3 games to non-playoff teams (AZ, GB, NO), all without Kupp (out early vs AZ) and Stafford.

This was always my concern with Tua - staying healthy (@tlance and I had a good healthy debate about his playing future in the NFL a while back). It's clear Tua was held back by Flores, and McDaniels is the perfect coach for him. But dude just can't stay healthy and Tua is not the QB for the Phins long term.
