He's not going to go to a school where he doesn't have a chance to win right away. His best-case first-year scenario at Nebraska would be 4 wins.
How did USC jump from 4-8 last year to being ranked Top Ten the next year?

If USC's coach can so transform that team so quickly, how would it be so impossible for a coach to do that at Nebraska?

Hate to bash my own team's division, but right now the B1G West is having it's worst season since it started. Which teams couldn't Nebraska catch up to? UW's been on a slow decline for a couple years now. Iowa's coach is getting old, so will they bounce back next year? Maybe, but how much? NW is looking bad. So if Nebraska can win 2 or 3 ooc games, and can beat NW, that's already 4 games. Are Illinois and Purdue so good they can't be matched?

With some luck and good timing they could win the division. I mean Minnesota is having a great year, but a ton of talent will be moving on at the end of the season, most significantly our preseason 1st team All-American Center, our 6th year QB and our preseason 2nd team All-American RB just to name some of them. UMn could lose both coordinators, too? I'm just saying.

How did USC jump from 4-8 last year to being ranked Top Ten the next year? USC not only got a very good coach, but he brought some key players with him from Oklahoma & scored some very good ones from the transfer portal.

If USC's coach can so transform that team so quickly, how would it be so impossible for a coach to do that at Nebraska? Nebraska is no longer a "destination station." It's not an easy place to recruit to like it was years ago.

There's usually one or two really good teams in the B-west, and two or three pretty good teams; plus whoever you have to contend with from the B-east. How many times has Nebraska beaten a good team in the last 3 or 4 years?

Illinois is trending up, and Northwestern tends to have two or three down years before rebounding with a really good season. Purdue is hanging in there at the moment. I don't foresee a quick turnaround for Nebraska, even if Iowa & Wisconsin continue on their downward spiral.

Agree.

I'm not sure that Urban could turn things around as quickly a Lincoln Riley appears to have at USC, but I'll bet he could come close.

Urban is a well known "name" coach with a history of putting players in the NFL, competing for National Championships and he's on the Fox CFB pre-game show. I think a lot of recruits and transfer portal guys would strongly consider Nebraska if Meyer was the coach. If they got a good NIL collective set up, it would help even more.

I don't know for sure that Meyer would want to coach at Nebraska or if he even is interested in coaching again. There is also the possibility that Nebraska may want nothing to do with him because he does have a lot of baggage.

It has the potential to be a great thing for both Meyer and Nebraska though. Restoring a blue blood like Nebraska would remove some of the taint from his Jacksonville debacle and it would be great for Nebraska.

As I've said before, if I'm Nebraska and willing to hire him, then figure out the max amount you can/will pay him and make him say no.

Worst case, he says no and Nebraska can at least tell their fans they tried and move on to another candidate. Maybe kick the tires on Matt Rhule who may not last the season with the Panthers?

Matt Rhule might be your better option.

Meyer went from a two-year stint at Bowling Green to a two-year stint at Utah, which he used as a stepping stone to the Florida job. He excelled when he first got to Florida because:
a) He was a very good coach;
b) He was in the middle of prime recruiting territory; and,
c) His only real competition was from Georgia, LSU, and sometimes Tennessee.

Then things got hairy as Alabama, Auburn & Ole Miss got better coaches and he was no longer in a position to dominate the conference. He started having mental/physical problems & eventually left. Then he got the Ohio St. job - which was by far the best gig in the Big 10 - and pretty much coasted along until the revelations about him ignoring the excesses of one of his assistants led to his temporary suspension & the repeat of the mental/physical problems he was having in Florida.

He is not going to take over a program that is near the bottom of a conference. He's just not built that way.
