Any talk of Urban Myer giving up his cushy seat as a college football analyst to take the reigns at Nebraska is delusional. And the same can pretty much be said for Lane Kiffin being lured to Auburn. The AU job isn't officially open, yet, but it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that it will be by season's end.

Meyer is going to go to any program that's not already near the top of its conference in recruiting & playoff potential. Nebraska is either going to have to spend big to lure an established coach who is looking for a new challenge, hire somebody who is out of favor but has lots of potential, or spin the bottle on another new guy or a well-established coordinator, or look for someone from a lower division that has incredible record and wants to try his hand against the big boys.

Auburn's situation isn't quite that bad since the Tigers are only in Year Two of their quagmire, and they showed under Gus Malzahn that they can be highly competitive. But there's no reason Kiffin would want to leave a program that he's built up quite nicely to take over one that's currently a step or two below his own & is in the same division of the SEC. Plus, the Auburn alumni & boosters are notorious for their interference in the program, and only somebody desperate to get back into the SEC would want to deal with that. That puts Liberty coach Hugh Freeze as the most likely candidate for the Auburn job.

If Freeze took the job, I wonder if he would hire Scott Frost as his offensive coordinator?

I have no take on the prospects for the newly-opened Arizona St. job.

I'm not so sure Urbs wouldn't take the Nebraska gig, especially if they back up the Brinks truck in his driveway.

Lincoln Riley has shown that it is possible to do a complete makeover on 1 side of the ball and improve the other in 1 off season via the portal.

USC went 4-8 last year and are currently 7th in the nation. I don't think they'll stay there because they lack depth (especially on the O and D lines), but watching them this year compared to last year is night and day.

I'm not saying Nebraska is getting him, considering his baggage, they may not be interested.

But if they are...they should put together the absolute most they think they can afford and make him turn them down.

USC has to be the most overrated team in the country right now. 82nd in Total Defense, against friggin Rice, Fresno St and Stanford? Maybe wait til they can outscore Oregon St before you start listing them as an example of how something can be done at Nebraska in 1 off season? Just a thought.

Dude, USC went 4-8 last year, has beaten a bunch of nobodies so far this year, and allowed them to score a lot of points on them. I mean 82nd in total defense? If you think you are such a football expert, then explain to me what USC has done to deserve a Top Ten ranking. Go on genius.

But to stay on topic, I think Nebraska will try to get Meyer, but he won't want anything to do with that dumpster fire.

Why do you insist on kicking your own ass?

All that is required are eyes and a rudimentary understanding of the game.

The eyes can easily deceive. Never see the movie Moneyball?

Last week the FEI Rating had USC down at #33. They did move up to #21.

Meh, he's not my preferred choice, but Urbs is in my top 7.
Anyone who thinks that he would NEVER want the Nebraska job is clueless on the subject.
Ego & money.
Urbs (and most every other coach) has the ego, Nebraska has the money.

Well, he did bring some chunks of his Oklahoma offense over with him, including the QB; so that helped a lot. It also didn't hurt that the entire MWC is down this year, so Fresno St. wasn't able to put up much resistance last week. But let's see what happens when USC gets into the meat of its schedule.

It helps that they have competent coaching for the first time in years.

Urby isn't interested in going to a fly-over state.

You are correct, Meyer has the ego. That's why he won't be going to Nebraska. If he is going to get into college coaching again, he will want to go somewhere where he can win right away - and in dominant fashion. Nebraska does not offer that possibility.

The only Big 10 jobs that would interest Urbs would be Ohio St., Michigan, or Penn St. Those are already taken. And as long as there are highly competent coaches at two of those three schools, he will not be interested in the third.

He could possibly be persuaded to take a Pac-12 job in a year or two since there are currently no truly dominant teams out west. And things will get even easier once the L.A. schools leave for the Big 10.

He's not going to go to a school where he doesn't have a chance to win right away. His best-case first-year scenario at Nebraska would be 4 wins.

Anyone with half a clue could win 4 games here.
We just haven't anyone like that in a while.

Clued-in or clueless, 4 wins is still tops until some major rebuilding takes place.

That was very true, like back when you ran off Pelini. It’s not anymore.
