You aren’t old enough to have watched Um when they were relevant. Now with the merger it’s sad you will never have witnessed your team win a Rose Bowl.
I've watched the Gophers win 44 games in the last 6 years, while you've watched your Ducks win 45 legit games. WOW, what a huge difference. lol

Lol - You love the leather helmet days. Your athletic department is lower tier. Your facilities are a joke.

Actually they are not. They got new practice facilities just a few years ago. Just because we don't have a slave labor king willing to donate blood money to our school doesn't mean our facilities are a joke.

And your better facilities have led to a whole ONE extra legit win over the last 6 years, lol.

I’ve watched 3 Rose Bowl wins that includes a CFB Playoff win, watched in person 2 National Championship games and a Fiesta Bowl Win. Meanwhile your best post conference win is an Outback Bowl win. LMAO

They are relevant RIGHT NOW, at least to the 2 Pac teams coming into the B1G and the other 5 being considered.

30 wins for the Gophers over the last 4 years compared to

only 22 for USC
only 25 for UW
only 21 for Cal
only 18 for Col
only 16 for UCLA
only 20 for Stanford.

All bought with blood money from slave labor. You should be so proud.

But what should be expected from a chump university like Oregon?

UMn #2 in the nation in # of Academic All-Americans produced this year. Climbing closer to the Top Ten of All-time every year. #11 right now, with many of the Top Ten not even being Div 1 schools.

Sadly we both need his help. If UW and Oregon remain in the PAC-Whatever, we're both screwed.
UW is going to be though. In the past three sessions of our state legislature session they have been trying to combine UW and Wazzu athletics to get a piece of the pie towards the state budget. UW can want to leave but it is a public institution that the state won’t allow to leave unless their payday is also going to WSU. We are screwed right now but if UW goes we will get a nice payday and be the best set up athletic program on the west coast…crappy for sure but we can scoop the 3 stars who can’t go east and let them play in front of their moms and dads.

Maybe you should focus on winning a NY6 game or a Rose Bowl. Cause your academic strategy isn’t working.

Oh FFS, what does any of this thread have to do with fuggin' Minnesota? Here's some perspective once and for all. The rest of the country views Minnesota athletics like they would probably view Mississippi State, yeah, they're a solid SEC school that embodies everything that conference is, it isn't going anywhere, and has a couple of decent athletic programs. But in football it doesn't really make waves all too often and no one really has them at the forefront of their mind when they think "SEC". If someone mentions, "We've been great at baseball at MSU. Will Clark was a Bulldog! Betcha didn't know!", it really doesn't impress anyone.

I honestly have nothing against Minnesota (Or Mississippi State), but man we really need to get some perspective here.

In Baseball, YES!!! You say right there that the Most Natl Titles equals the most elite, so either Minnesota IS the most elite Baseball program in the B1G (1)or you are hypocritical liar?

And what UCLA bb did during the Wooden years, including paying players, won't determine whether UCLA will do better in the B1G in bb than Minnesota. The Pac has sucked SO BAD in college bb in the 21st century, these additions won't help the B1G's bb talent level. More than likely USC will hang out in the bottom 3rd of the conference and UCLA will hang out in the middle 3rd of the Conf standings with the occasional good year.

Same with USC football, what they did when they got caught cheating and had at least one title stripped, won't have anything to do with how well they perform vs Ohio St, Michigan, PSU, MSU, Wisc, Iowa and yes, Minnesota.

And YES, I think Minnesota hockey is the best all time because I don't just look at one single solitary stat.

#1 in NCAA tourney wins.
#1 in NCAA tourney appearances.
#1 in players sent to the NHL
#1 in scoring in the NHL last several years.
#1 in producing US Olympic Hockey players, and it's not even close!!!
#1 in producing US Olympic Hockey Gold Medals, and it's not even close!!!
#1 in producing US Hockey Hall of Fame players.

1. Wasn't talking about baseball when I said that. I was talking about hockey. And what exactly did I lie about?

No reason to read the rest of your nonstop bullshit as you started out with baseball when I was, now pay attention, talking about hockey. Just wanted to say that one more time.

There's something wrong with you, seriously. Go get the help you so badly need.

Since you think Minnesota rules all of college athletics a few questions for you. When was the last time the Gophers won a national title in...

-football

-basketball

-baseball

-hockey

Nothing recent correct? All you have left is to relive past titles the Gophers have won. Because they haven't won any national titles recently. Shit you think Minnesota football's elite and they haven't won a national title since the early 60's.

Nobody on this site homers like you. You're one of a kind. That's not a compliment.

When it comes to Conference Expansion and the B1G, academics/research & development DO MATTER.

The schools partnered together in the B1G research and development collaboration are bringing in BILLIONS of dollars. That money DWARFS the money brought in by football. So you might think football is their top priority when it comes to expansion, but obviously you weren't watching as the B1G brought in Rutgers and Maryland?!
Yes Maryland and Rutgers were not bringing recent football success.
But they brought in TV markets.
The next year's BIG Ten release shown Rutgers and Maryland were 2 of the top 3 in the BIG for incoming revenue generation.
You wont hear Maryland or Rutgers complain about fair share, they would not have it without the BIG Ten. :)
Oregon not close. But may be brought in for reduced travel. Or maybe NIKE will help pay their way because they can't on their own.

The big thing that makes me proud is that other thing you mentioned, Research Spending.
Maryland and Minnesota over a Bil, pretty cool.
And the BIG does joint research.

Research Spending in Mil
$1,680 University of Michigan
$1,310 University of California, Los Angeles
$1,300 University of Wisconsin
$1,100 University of Maryland

3M is much different than Nike, it doesn't depend on overseas foreign slave labor to produce it's products and it's products are actually useful and constructive and not super over priced. What the fuck does Nike produce that the world couldn't just as easily live with out? The world would probably be a better place without Nike crap. People have died, after getting shot or stabbed for their Nikes. Also, 3M doesn't try to dictate how UMn operates. If you really look into the money Uncle Phil is giving Oregon and the strings he has attached to it, he's not as generous as he might seem, seems Oregon has to do things for Phil to keep him happy and help him make more money. Might be a shrewd business deal for Phil, but I'm guessing it won't work out for Oregon the way they had hoped it would? If they get into the B1G, then maybe an argument could be made for it paying off? But what about Oregon St, they get money from him, too, and seems they are going to be heading to the WAC or some lower level conference soon?

And how is UMn's academic strategy not working? I thought colleges and universities purpose was to educate people, including it's athletes, and as far as I can tell UMn is doing a damn good job, better than 95-99%% of the rest of the country!!!

When you lay it all out like you have, Oregon looks like even more of a chump school. They could QUADRUPLE their spending and STIILL wouldn't catch up to Rutgers, lol.

They'd have to TRIPLE their spending just to pass up friggin Nebraska, lol.

And Ohio St HAS won a title in cbb recently? Or a College Baseball title recently? Or any College Hockey title EVER???

All OSU has is football. Which is a nice thing to be good at, I'll grant you that. But football is not all that matters in life. Fewer and fewer kids are playing football now, more and more colleges will start giving it up, either because they can't afford to support it, or possibly because some experts predict 50% colleges will close by 2040? But no one is discussing whether OSU will get dumped from the B1G, whereas at least one complete and total moron has mentioned Minnesota as if they would be one of the schools on the chopping block, and so just making the case that Minnesota will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER get bumped from the B1G.

It's #5 in R & D spending in the B1G and high enough in the country it would be almost impossible to improve by replacing them, remember the B1G is EXPANDING, not shrinking, and it's #5 in the B1G in it's media footprint, UMn is regularly ranked in the Top 25 of the Sears Directors Cup, or just outside of it. UMn produces THE MOST NHLers, Top 20 nationally in producing MLB players and NBA players and close to Top 25 in producing NFL players. Minnesota produces a ton of alumni, being one of the biggest universities in the country, and it's a top producer of olympic talent as well.

And football wise, it wins more games than EVERY SINGLE PAC school being considered AND the two that have already been added, with the exception or Oregon who has only produced one legit win more than Minnesota in the last 6 years!!!

The price of entry to the BIG Ten without lower each teams full share is getting larger.

Scroll down, they are starting to talk $1,5 B broadcast contract not the $1 B before USC/UCLA.
The $100 mil est per team before was at the end of the contract.
This will be $100 mil out the gate.

I'm guessing USC/UCLA will get prorated for 7 years like Maryland, Rutger and Nebraska.

Eventually, the pie is gonna have to be slanted towards the big boys for future expansion to work to fuel competition with ESPN/SEC and profit at the same time. At this point, I think these bigger schools now have that leverage. What's Purdue gonna do? Join the Big 12? lol.

And the big boys aren't always who one would think. After Maryland and Rutgers were added the next release by the BIG Ten on revenue generation by school had Maryland and Rutgers in the top 3. Nebraska at the bottom as I recall. Interesting stuff we get to watch as it unfolds.

There is that other dark secret everyone avoids, every conference needs some schools at the bottom of the standings. :)
Everyone at 500 never looks good.
