Nobody knows what we even have right now with this team when they are 100% healthy. I think John Tortorella will demand that everyone give everything they have and we will find out pretty quickly where we stand player to player and as a whole team.

It appears that he has wanted to coach here for a long time and this should really be a good fit. As fans, we demand the same kind of passion and effort that Torts does out on the ice. One way or another, we're going to be a difficult team to play against.

Officially off the Savoie bandwagon. Assuming Wright, Cooley, and Slafkovsky are off the board;

Nemec, Jiricek, Gauthier in that order. You just dont get many shots at a potential top pair RHD, that's my preference. Gauthier is almost a distant 3rd.
We need anyone who can make an impact in the next 2-3 years. We cant draft someone who needs to be developed as we all know how that has worked out. I dont care who it is just pick someone NHL ready.

It would make a bunch of sense for Torts to bring in some of his ex-players that are out there. A couple are on the Lightning roster but I am not sure any are free agents. The Flyers could add one or two of those players who have Championship experience to go aling with the youngsters they'll be drafting and signing but I am not sure any of those ex-players want to voluntarily sign-up to play for Torts again seeing his league-wide nasty rep he has out there.
We could use some of his old player that liked him for sure. Just cant acquire any player named Dubinsky. :nono:

Lots of talk of a bad culture that has to change. Culture is in the locker room.

So are they saying the players have an F-you attitude toward the coaching staff and vice-versa ? Clearly the flyers overpay for the given talent so can’t see how “pay” is the issue. Are there factions within the players ? Old vs young ? O vs D ?

If there are specific a-holes , they need to go. I do believe Torts will take care of this
Whoever doesn't like his system has got to go because he will be here at least the next three seasons.

I'm starting to finally warm up to the hiring of Torts and sadly I'm not even drunk saying this. I think he has that personality to fit well in this city. I think he has a bit of old school along with newer stuff that can work well here. He has a bit of a Mike Keenan side to him, but not to that extreme perse. I think the player who will benefit the most from Torts and his system is Carter Hart. We need this kid back to his old form. He has a ton of hockey left to bounce back and grow into a potential Vezina candidate.
Im with you here as we have to give Torts a chance as he is shown in the past he can win when he has the right pieces.

First problem is do we have the right pieces to play his hard defensive style.

Farabee ,Frost, Tippett, Cates ,JVR Are these guys willing to sell out and block shots and hit on a consistent basis?

Can't say I disagree with any of this lol.
Me either these are right on the money right on the money .

There was only one i disagreed with and it was blaming player development for our woes which i totally disagree with i think we drafted the wrong players but hey you never know.

Time will tell, I guess I too didn't agree with gutting the team and tanking, if you're going to do that then the Ristolainen contract should have never happened, I don't know how much cap space we have but I hope they use it on a solid defender first.

We cant afford a defender as our current crop of seven defenseman take up almost 31% of our salary cap.

We need to shed some salary from our D corps if anything.

If they don't decide to move Sanheim or Provorov in a blockbuster type deal, and Ellis gets/stays healthy, I think the defense will be OK. There's enough talent between Provorov/Sanheim/Ellis/Ristolainen to build a decent top 4. York is a good 5th guy who could even be more. I guess 6th is still a hole, but it's your 6th dman. Add in Torts' reputation for getting guys to buy-in defensively, particularly getting forwards to sell out and block shots, and they would be in good shape IMO. Expensive maybe, but OK.

Ellis' return is obviously the big IF there. If he doesn't return I think Fletcher has a 0% chance of making this retool thing work. If he does return, I give it like a 7% chance.

Forwards is my bigger concern by far. They don't have a single guy that's even remotely scary offensively. They'll have to grind out every single goal they score without an infusion of talent. Looking on the bright side, they're totally negating any line-matching disadvantage from playing on the road. Other teams won't even need to dress a shut down line, let alone match them up against a Flyers line.

I'll be the first to admit and gladly eat crow for saying that I loved trading for Risto. I thought for sure he would have blossomed in Philly. I thought getting out of Buffalo was what he desparately needed. Going from a losing franchise into another has damaged this guy. Maybe if this team can stay healthy and a new system in put in place to benefit him, maybe it's possible to fix him? Anyway, the deal in hindsight was terrible
I saw my crow medium well.

How can we really have anyone offensively who would be scary when we drafted bad, developed bad, signed bad free agents, traded for bad players and we only have 69% of the cap to spend in that area.

I also agree that our defense can be Ok if like you said Ellis comes back healthy, but if a teams spends 31% of their cap on defense they should be good.

Trading a 1st second and a second for Risto was a truly terrible idea especially when it was obvious we didnt have the players to be a cup contender and with Gee on his last year we needed those draft picks badly. Resigning him was an even worse idea when we could've recouped some of those picks. The only thing we can hope for now is that Risto was the reason why Sanheim played so well this year.

Lol. I'm with you. I was honestly OK with the trade, even good with it. Price was a little steeper than I would have gone, but given my semi-optimism for the team last summer, missing the snarl, RHD, getting him out of Buffalo. All that stuff made it worth the gamble to me. I actually thought him being on a 1 year deal was a bit of a bonus because if shit hit the fan and they sucked in '21-'22 they could recoup assets at the deadline in a full scale sell-off.

Re-upping him after the Flyers saw what he was (and the team was), particularly for the amount, was just a ridiculous decision. Regardless of how much they paid to get him.

I don't know his contract status but maybe Torts will bring in Atkinson. And you gents are correct, If you don't buy into Torts system, your ass will be out the door. He doesn't tolerate bullshit from anybody. Period.

This may be a good thing as it will stop the Flyers from over-paying undeserving players and clean-up this prevailing eff-you attitude that so permeates the locker room-maybe.

But we shall see what transpires over this coming season. Torts signed a 4-year deal so we will all watch the constructor of champions do his thing here in Philiadeplhia.

We need top shelf players on both the front and back ends. Best player available!!!!!
