I think I've only seen two full episodes (4 and 5, I think). Seems like a very good show. I never knew that Dr. Buss was such a crazy guy and a playboy. I didn't know that Pat Riley came out of the broadcast booth to coach. I didn't know about the tension between Kareem and Magic, but that's understandable any time a hot new rookie comes into a team that has a superstar like Kareem.

Also, I never knew about Jack McKinney. I knew about Paul Westhead and that he actually won a title before Riley took over, but I had no idea that Showtime actually was the brain child of McKinney.

Has it already been discussed here that apparently Will Ferrell is no longer speaking to his longtime partner Adam McKay because McKay cast Reilly instead of Ferrell as Buss? Sorry Will, I love you, but you would not be the right cast. I guess Ferrell is just an insanely massive Lakers fan or something.

I think I mentioned it somewhere on here. It's more like the last straw that ruined their relationship from what I gather from reading entertainment sites. Apparently McKay has become a bit of a dick since gaining more pub from his movie successes (The Big Short, Vice, etc) which caused friction in their professional relationship. They had dissolved their production company at one point (can't remember if it was before or after this show announcement). But this show made it so Ferrell isn't even talking to him anymore. Ferrell is a big Lakers fan and had discussed the project with McKay for years. He was led to believe he was getting the Jerry Buss part. McKay then gives the part to Reilly, one of Ferrell's best friends, and doesn't even tell Ferrell. Dick move for sure even if Reilly is 100% the better actor for the role

Other tidbits the show has taken liberties with. Riley did come out of the booth but not like the show portrays. He was an announcer 2 years before Magic's rookie year and was an assistant at the start of that season. It was McKinney's system but Westhead is near as incompetent and clueless as being portrayed. Best I can remember from reading, he ran the system fine once McKinney went out. But when he was actually made coach full time later on, he tried to implement more of his own type of offense (more isolation stuff). Magic hated it and played a large role in forcing him out.

This sounds legit, the relationship was fraying a bit already and then this is like ok fuck you then.

It's a shame I'm a big fan of all of em (Ferrell, McKay, Reilly). I wonder if Ferrell is mad at Reilly?

I think they're still cool. I can't recall anything about them having major beef, at least not to the degree Ferrell and McKay have

I can't imagine Will could be angry with John after seeing his portrayal of Buss. It's so good.
