More about Otto's fine performance last night from Scott Lucas.

According to Statcast, Otto mixed in a fair number of curves and three changes. His curve runs at pretty much the same velo (80-82) as his extremely sweepy slider. My issue last year was a repertoire nearly entirely narrowed to fastballs and sliders. (I assume he was just following instructions, so that's not on him.) If starting remains a possibility, working on and back end of the mix is critical, so yesterday was nice to see.

That depends on how stubborn the front office is about trying to make the Gibson trade not look as horrible as it is.

If they will give in and give up on him starting, then he can go to Frisco and work in the pen.

If not, we will have to see more outings like today, although probably not as bad against lesser offenses.

So we probably have three guys who could step into the 5th starter role:

Burke
Alexy
Otto

despite the 1-2 record, Rangers leave Toronto with a +3 run diff.

2021: 8.5 K and 2.7 BB per game.

This series: 6 K and 4.3 BB per game.

You think it is all about baseball politics?

Nice win. The Jays have now given up 23 runs, so far the most in baseball.
Wow that does not bode well for them but have to give new Ranger lineup credit. No way last years squad does this

My guess is he'll get a few more starts. Don't believe it has to do with saving face or anything. Have to give players the benefit of the doubt and not go by 1 game.

They won't keep running him out there if the results are similar to today every time, in my opinion. I think they'll move him to the pen if he keeps shitting the bed as a starter (and the smart money is on him shitting the bed as a starter).

First the obvious Howard stunk it up and Solak looked liked he belonged even against RHP.
The platoon approach worked well and great 2 out hitting. Miller is a stud

Really impressed with Burke especially moving pitches and utilizing the wide strike. For a little nervous with Holland warming up but He for out of the jam

Even SBorz looked better especially with his breaking stuff. Glad to see Barlow get his feet wet.

Really think the team will improve especially if pitching solidifies. Have to think the leash is getting shorter on Howard. At least they didn’t do the opener

I hope they don’t move him to the pen. If he has continued troubles just move him to AAA. He has pretty decent stuff but his command stinks
Likely between the ears

He probably didn’t practice earthing before the game.
