Article from ESPN+

Here are the top 10 outfielders at each of the three spots, based on feedback from evaluators, as well as Hembekides and Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

There were no Mariners listed in the Top 10, or the Honorable Mention list, at any of the 3 outfield positions.

The one listing that caught my eye was in LF. Enjoy.

1. Tyler O'Neill, St. Louis Cardinals

The gap between O'Neill and any other player at his spot might be the most significant among all of the positions. He is a plus defender, mashed 34 homers last season and finished 19th in FanGraphs' baserunning metric. His rate of hard-hit balls jumped from 33% in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season to 42.8% last year.
I put a like to this one because there isn’t an icon for the we told you so.

The Athletic evaluated fan proposals for trades and I'm curious what you guys think of the proposals/responses:

Mariners trade RHP Brandon Williamson and OF Zach DeLoach to Reds for RHP Sonny Gray — Andy S.

If you substitute left-handed pitcher Adam Macko for DeLoach, you have a deal.

Pirates trade OF Bryan Reynolds to Mariners for OF Julio Rodríguez, RHP Emerson Hancock and another prospect — Nick N.

The Mariners say no freakin’ way and hang up the phone. They wouldn’t do Rodríguez straight up for Reynolds and they wouldn’t do Hancock straight up for Reynolds. You must be a Pirates fan, and I don’t blame you for trying. However, Rodríguez and Hancock are under team control for six years, and for the first three won’t be arbitration-eligible. Although Reynolds is locked up for four more years, this is a non-starter proposal.

Mariners trade RHP Drew Steckenrider, RHP Levi Stoudt and OF Zach DeLoach to A’s for RHP Chris Bassitt — Kai N.

This makes a lot of sense for both teams and is one of the best proposals suggested here. This trade would solidify the Mariners as a postseason team in 2022.

What do you guys think?

Most interesting offseason for the Mariners since George W. Bush was president and we've locked out.

I haven't really followed the international signings much so far. I trust your judgment on this, so I'm curious what you think so far.

It looks like these are the names of note:

OF Lazaro Montes - $2.5 million: #8 international prospect per MLB.com. #4 ranked outfielder.
SS Martin Gonzalez - $1.3 million: #48 international prospect. #22 ranked SS.
INF Maicol Arroyo - $1.3 million: #44 international prospect. #18 ranked SS.

How would you guys grade this? Honestly I don't know other than it looks like a shit load of the prospects are listed at SS. If the grading system that MLB.com uses also translates to their evaluation of MLB minor league prospects, it looks like Montes would be the rated as the #6 prospect in the organization with the other two ranking somewhere in the top 15.

We've probably already discussed this at length if the trade was right in hindsight, but I think we all knew what that this was the player Tyler O'Neill would end up becoming. Honestly I'm surprised it took him this long to earn substantial playing time.

The only thing that saved this trade from being an absolute disaster is that Marco surpassed most of the expectations we had of him and the fact that we currently have a lot of depth in the organization at OF - albeit most of it is "potential". When we made the trade I honestly saw Marco as a soft tossing leftie with injury issues and a lack of production at the MLB level.

I'm sure you guys will disagree with this, but I'd consider the Marco trade to be even in terms of considerations going into 2022. The reason for that is because of the current state of the team. Marco has been a reliable starter and is on an incredibly friendly contract. If the Mariners didn't have Kelenic, Julio, Haniger, Lewis, etc. I would probably feel differently. I should probably add a disclaimer saying there are a ton of strong arguments against this perspective that I'm sure ya'll will probably point out, to the extent that I think it might actually be a bit of a stretch to say it ended up working out for both teams.

Pass. I want bigger than Gray if it is going to cost us these 2.

No. I would love to get Reynolds, but as Julio gets closer to the show I say forget about dealing him and just roll the dice with him. Now a deal involving Kelenic would intrigue me.

Maybe. I like DeLoach. I think he could be a France type hitter in the bigs. I still think there is better on the free agent market than guys like Gray and Bassitt without having to deal real prospects for.

I am glad you posted this because I saw it but didn't have access. I was curious to see what the deals were.

I have zero knowledge on these international guys outside of what I read, but this Montes kid looks like an animal. He is big and young and I love to see we have finally dipped into the Cuban market for a hitter. I thought Bettencourt scared us off...lol.

We need a Tyler LF more than we need a Marco as a #3 SP so I call it a fail, but not a Varitek/Lowe fail by any means. Thebad part is Tyler became the exact player we all hoped he would which cannot be said with the Varitek/Lowe deal.

I will disagree and hear me out. The Varitek/Lowe trade was only a fail because the Mariners didn’t win the World Series. That was the intention of the deal because they had Dan Wilson, obviously hindsight it sucked but I still do not get the logic for trading for Marco. Dislike the Varitek trade but at least you can rationalize it IMO.

Number 2 made me laugh really hard. At the trade deadline I think I’d debate maybe Hancock straight up though. I have a feeling Kirby and Hancock both won’t be long term Mariners but I think they both need another at least half season in the minors for them to evaluate on which one.

As much as I want to be open to anything, I really want no part in trading Julio. I feel like this will be Adam Jones X10 bad if it happens.
I'd rather not deal Hancock either as I think he has the highest ceiling amount all of our pitching prospects but I can maybe think of scenarios where it may make sense.
