Let’s not forget:

-Danny Green, a key role player and shooter was out
-Joel Embiid was playing on 1 leg
-Ben Simmons lost his mind and forgot how to play basketball

I get the reactions here, but it would be a major mistake to make huge changes. Trading Simmons is fine if they get an all star caliber player back, but blowing this up would be the exact same mistake the Rockets made when they traded Chris Paul.

The 6ers really aren’t that far off.
And the 6ers now have the exact same GM the Rockets had.

Simmons doesn’t have much value at the moment, anywhere

I want Rivers gone. I do not care if Simmons or others were shit. It doesn't matter who we have as players, you cannot win with Doc.
They are already paying Brett Brown. They’re not firing a guy after a year where they had the number i seed with an incomplete team. Morey will give the team a face lift in the off season.

Philly probably shouldn’t have cheaped out on trying to acquire Kyle Lowry…..
This team needed more than Kyle Lowry. Wouldn’t have made Embiid any healthier.

I disagree. He’s only 25. He’s not going to bring you an All Star caliber player. Coaches fall in love with skill sets and will think they can be the one to unlock him. Additionally, a guy on NBA 1st team defense who can guard 1-5 is still going to have value in the modern NBA. Sixers need to shop him and take the best fit in what comes back. They need a second scoring option and can sacrifice some defense in bringing that guy back in a trade. Ideally it’s a wing player because after Maxey’s rookie year, I think he can be a guy that you can grow a pick n roll game with Embiid. Ideally next year’s team looks something like this:
Maxey 1
“Guy that comes back for Simmons” 2
Thybulle 3
Harris 4
Embiid 5

There was so much promise about the 76ers "Process" and the emphasis on tanking as it was a (near) sure-fire model for success. Eight years later, and the Sixers have what, one conference finals appearance? And a clear picture that their two main pieces - Embiid and Simmons don't fit.

Of course Simmons will carry value. But, the NBA operates on the model that it's better to have a full dollar than 4 quarters. Talent-driven teams usually derive the best results. Simmons still carries some value, but, for $30 mil per year, he doesn't come close to meeting the contract that he's signed for. And teams now know that the Sixers, when they approach contract talks, aren't operating at an advantage. And Doc Rivers was brought in to bridge the gap that his predecessor couldn't fill. So Rivers is now faced with a glooming decision - because if he stands pat, keeps what he has, and doesn't at minimum make a conference finals, he too could be on his way out.

Unfortunately the process was a failure. Hinkie did a good job amassing picks, but Colangelo squandered much of that draft capital.

Collins with the immense disrespect of Embiid at the presser too, LOL. To say teams don't fear the Sixers is an understatement.

I agree, the Sixers in general are paper tigers.

I agree, but Embiid is always hurt, every year. People who act like the Sixers should just run it back with this same nucleus, again, also fail to take into account the likelihood that this is Embiid's prime, and he may not have more than 5 years left as a big man playing like this. The window to win with him is now, you can't keep waiting and hoping against hope Ben Simmons develops a shot year after year!

Indeed, I think you can go further to talent evaluation as well. This was my main issue with simply tanking to get high draft capital. Doesn't do any good if your scouting department is a mess. Give me a competent organization that's able to identify great talent, especially in the later part of the lottery into the mid-1st round.

The price Simmons could command a few years back was the center piece of a Kawhi deal. He’s not there. But he can bring you a piece like Brandon Ingram or even Wiggins or a Fox type player. The asset hasn’t been totally destroyed but it has lost value.

Thunder likes to make very broad pronouncements about how everyone thinks that are simply what he thinks
