A lot of dancing around this, but I haven't heard what his issue is. Not fair to assume and have no clue, but relapse jumps out at you. Was a crazy year. Guy looked like an All Pro after the first month and then kind of settled in as JAG after that

A few days ago Broadas made a cryptic comment on social media that Smith was "working through some things" or there was something going on.

I think this is why they signed Basham. Basham looks the type that can get things done on the field when compared to Dorance Armstrong. Basham is a good special teams player as well.

Don't expect too much from Basham. I didn't remember him being very good with the Jets but asked a huge Jet fan friend after I saw we signed him and he pretty much confirmed it. He said once in a while he made a nice play but other than that was mostly just out of sight out of mind. I think he could be good to fill out some snaps, but I'm guessing that if we are playing him regularly we are in trouble. Not a bad signing because we have our two starters if they stay on the field, but not sure he'll be the first guy off the bench at DE

In regards to Aldon, it might be he didn't like Mike Nolan being replaced. Now the coach who understood him best and had the longest relationship with is gone. You cut the legs off the support Smith was standing on,. He might be gone.

It's unfortunate as it makes an edge rusher more of a priority now. Makes locking up a safety much more of a priority. We desperately need to limit the needs that need to be addressed in the draft.

could be, but Smith disappeared after week 3....1 sack and 28 tackles in 13 games, we can do better

I'm still not opposed to a Richard Sherman signing (depending on his asking price). I think he still brings something to the table and a reunion with Quinn might be tempting. I think Sherman combined with a premium pick corner puts us in pretty good shape. Diggs, Sherman, Lewis, 1/2 rd corner, not bad, especially if we get more help at safety.

still like to see them sign Hooker and then draft Surtain or Horn at #10 and Holland at #44
I am hoping hard for Hooker to be signed also. Crazy that would still leave us needing to upgrade at least one starter at DT, CB and LB. The talent on this defense at the start of the offseason was just so poor. Probably impossible to fix in one offseason Who knows maybe we use all of our picks on defense and bandaid it together. Hopefully McClay has a good draft for us and Jerry and Stephen let the smart people do their jobs

100% agree.

Ideally we use 3 of our first 4 on defense and at least one to bolster the oline.

Would love to move back a few picks in the first and pick up a few extra because we desperately need them.

As stated above, would also love to bring in Sherman just to alleviate the need to use more than one of those picks on corner.

I guess going back to last year you have to give McCarthy credit for at least changing the way this team approaches FA with our defense. Last year we signed Poe and Dix at two of our historically ignored spots and Griffin, McCoy and A Smith on the DL. All are gone and Dix never even played here, but at least he tried to add players. So while our choice of players still sucks and could again this year (time will tell), at least we are recognizing we need to upgrade the talent on this team. No if we just pick quality over quantity we'd really accomplish something
