So.... to recap:

This season, Dwayne Haskins has been benched in favor of Kyle Allen, Alex Smith -- and in a must-win Week 16 game w/ playoff implications -- Taylor Heinicke.

Why didn't Heinicke start the game? Stevie Wonder could see Haskins isn't an NFL caliber player.

Assuming Smith was injured and assuming it was Rivera’s choice who to start, not medical trainers or Snyder, I think the best thing for Rivera would have been:

1. Win with Smith.
2. Win with Montez.
3. Win with Heinicke.
3. Win with Haskins.
4. Lose with Haskins.
5. Lose with Smith.
6. Lose with Heinicke.

But he couldn’t lose with Smith because injury would have put him in criticism for not going with the healthy player.

He couldn’t lose with Heinicke because the guy had no starts or reps with the 1s. If he missed the playoffs due to Heinicke/Montez losing, people would question his decision to send a message instead of playing the guy with the highest chance of winning (based on reps). Starting either of Heinicke or Montez would have to be coupled with full week of practice.

Same reason for losing with Montez but even more so due to experience and being a rookie.

Winning with Smith is the best case because it justifies playing him despite injury, shows he’s healthy, and the best on the roster at the moment.

Winning with Heinicke would show he had instincts to go with a familiar player with his system.

Winning with Montez, if he had a chance at the future would start the process.

Wnning with Haskins is better than any loss and would help with trade value, but otherwise puts his coaching decisions in some doubt. Lose in the first round with Smith after a close out against the Niners, a good comeback in Seattle, a must win at Carolina, a meaningless Week 17 game win would put his decision to go with Smith in a bad light.

Again, you would rather win than lose regardless of the quarterback. I’m just saying that if you’re going to rank what is best for Rivera, I think that’s the order.

And then on top of that, I think that the decision was that Haskins gives them the best choice due to the reps.

Why he didn’t just go with Heinicke to start the second half, I think that was unfortunate but, we only know in hindsight.

Can we just cut Haskins, Cam, and Steve Sims right now? I was nervous when they announced Haskins the starter. Wow. that was awful. Why wasn't Haskins benched in the 2nd half?

We can cut them, but why?

So im done piling on Haskins. Think we all are in agreement that this team will never be any good with him leading the charge. He had his chance be it rushed or not. No sense at all keeping him on this team unless they want him to compete for a 3rd string roll. No QB on our roster is the answer. RR if he wants a chance at winning now with a defense finally capable at making any game at the start winnable he will need to figure the shit out soon.

No need to pile on. I hope the kid gets it together and succeeds somewhere but he burned too many bridges here.

He did not show the needed maturity, and it was quite evident that he did now show the needed understanding of the play book when playing here. I still have to laugh (in a sad way) how he trotted out on the field to shake Hiney's hand. It said to me "he does not even understand how to be a leader."

While watching the game I had to wonder. Can't anyone get open? What happened to Logan Thomas? What happened to McKissic? The answers were apparent when Heiny came into the game. Then I had to ask "why did this take so long?" A Cam Sim's dropped ball and hold on Schweitzer were game killers .... besides the coaching staff having paralysis when we needed a decision maker.

I hoped but did not think he was a wise decision when he was drafted. It will be interesting to see if Smith starts next week. If he can what was the difference between next week and this week? I would like to see someone healthy not named Haskin's play.

Definitely Snyder for me. DH is who he is, it is the job of the team to figure it out. It was not a good QB draft year. The best seems to be Murray and he is okay but not great while being the first overall pick. The plan should have been to wait until this year. I am pissed at JJ Watt for snapping Smith's leg causing Dan to think he knew what he was doing.

b/c they have no future with the team and are causing this team to lose. C. Sims blew two huge catches that would of set us up for Td's. S. Sims actually gave them a TD. Haskins just proved he doesn't belong going against a bad defense and still struggling. You have Smith\Henike for Qb and Agg for Cam Sims and Wright to take punts instead of C. Sims to end the year.
