played last night...didn't play well.

I decided to leave my driver in the bag. I hit my 3W just as far and much more accurate. Until I fix this slice, I think this is necessary.

Also, I put in a bid on eBay for one of these...TaylorMade Original One Mini-Driver...11.5° loft

Ill, Pull your rear foot off the target line, push your lead shoulder out, rotate your lead hand way back into a super strong grip and stay back behind the ball without letting your hips slide forward.

You'll hit a mighty hook. Now, start reducing all of those a bit at a time till the hook is gone and the slice ain't there yet.

I have been repositioning my rear foot with some results...not always good. I have also been trying to end my swing on the ball of my left foot instead of on my heel. That seems to help. I have changed my grip too.

I also want to shorten my back swing. I KNOW I bring my driver back way too far. I shouldn't be able to see the head of my club in my peripheral vision over my left shoulder.

so I shortened my driver backswing and kept my wrists locked a little more on my downswing last night at the range and it felt pretty good. I couldn't get a wicked hook, but I was seeing the ball fly much straighter. I wasn't really going for distance, but I was getting some good drives in there. Hoping I can reproduce it on the course.

I burned through maybe 20 of those cheap ass stinger tees though. Fuck those tees.

For most of the spring...I've been able to aim down the left side of the fairway and hit a nice 15 yd cut that mostly ended up in the FW, certainly not in any trouble.

As the season has gone on (very little practice time this yr vs last)...now I'm not as confident in the cut...I'm hitting a few balls left and they're staying left.

Not bad shots mind you (mostly in play) but doubt has started to creep in because idk if it's going to cut or stay left. The minute I aim for the middle and let one rip...it goes right.

As they say...you will find it in the dirt...right now I just don't have the desire in this 90+ deg heat to go looking for it....so that's the life of the weekend golfer for me.

I can usually control mine to the point where I can call it a fade...but really it's a slice. If I could do it on demand as opposed to it just being natural, I would have something. My hands just get too far in front of my club head and I turn out, causing the slice.

need to keep those hands in the right spot.

I've had a slice for awhile now but I also have probably only played 3 times in the last year. Played a couple weeks ago, couldn't get rid of the slice...so I just made a quick fix. Like you said, I positioned my feet like I was playing a hook....starting hitting it straight every time and gaining a good 30-40 yards on my drives. Obviously, just a quick fix for now and not the most comfortable but I need to go hit the range to correct this. Haven't played since then so it's not like I have been playing a lot lol.

It's a huge problem and has become a habit bc I was even doing this on my irons too...so had to make the same quick fix for my iron shots too. It's frustrating.

Well...It doesn't sound like you have to worry about the left side of the course (assuming you play RH). I know no one like to slice (distance loss, etc.) but knowing where your ball is going to land should have some comfort of course until there is trouble right....then you might get a little more tensed up on the tee.

To me as a weekend golfer...the tee ball is all about getting it in play...I think most of us battle something on our worst days, and the better days maybe we get a few short irons in hand for the approach. Sounds like you know enough about your swing to own it...just need to shave some of the tail off.

played the local course last night, it's becoming a weekly routine at this point. Came in with a 90, so not bad.

Putting was absolute shit for me and my buddy I was playing with. I don't think we sunk a damn thing outside of 6 ft.

played yesterday...all my irons are leaking to the right now...I need a day at the range to fix shit.

played alright though. Hit the pin on a 40 ft birdie putt then hit the pin coming out of the sand on the next hole...I think those are my two accomplishments for the night.

snitched on a group of HS kids who were in the group ahead of us kicking over trashcans and shit. Got to the 4th hole and there were two big ass divots in the middle of the green, so we called the proshop. Got them booted from the course.

After golf last week we were having a few brewskies on the porch when this dude I've been playing with regularly for the past coupla years started making some lame political point. I Shut him down with logic he couldn't avoid and he went fucking postal abruptly. Out of fuckin' nowhere he went from 0 to 100 in one second yelling in my face that we'll never play again and I never liked you and yada yada! It's all a big Lol except for the strain it put on my other buddy who I've been friends with for 50+ years. This guy's apparently a real shithead. He stormed off and I haven't heard from him.

I've just been letting the dust settle but in our group golf text messages the three of us were using which we won't be using anymore, I'm gonna return one last text:

"Dude, I guess I need to apologize. I would have given you a safe space and I wouldn't have challenged your fragile ego if I knew that you have mental heath issues."

Back to golf...I did something truly remarkable last round when I hit the ball fucking sideways. Christ, I have literally not played that badly in years but get this. I shot an 89 and used the same ball all day! Usually when I've fucked up that badly, I've pumped at least one ball into the trees or the river. It really accentuates how badly I played.

played Oak Creek up by DC yesterday. Shot a 92, which isn't too bad, especially for a course I have never played. Fairways were nice and open, course was in great shape. No way anyone can walk the course, there is can be as much as a quarter mile between green and tee box sometimes.

still some issues with my game, but they are getting worked out. Not a bad day, to be honest.

my buddy I played with would say otherwise. He hasn't played in weeks and you could see the rust.

For the last two weeks. Every morning before work I stop by the club and hit 100 balls. I think I’m finally building some consistency. Hitting my irons dead straight most of the time now.

been doing a lot of drills to improve lag, and release properly. Once I was able to loosen my wrists up and stop trying to swing so hard with my arms, down-cocking, lag, and a good release comes naturally.

It takes a couple thousand swings to build a habit.

Well that situation I described where that dude Joe lost his shit on me over nothing escalated when Phil, my good friend of 50+ years sided against me. I just can't explain it. I gave Joe tons of music and movies on a hard drive, he loaned me a book, I gave him beers out of my trunk when the bar was closed....not one single conflict in two years. We literally never even disagreed about anything. My best bud Phil stood in complete silence when I asked him to describe Joe's hardship for me. After 10 seconds of silence I quipped, bro, you HAVE to at least say that you've observed us being chippy or something.....crickets. So that's that, I told him to go fucking play with Joe. After 16 years of being regular golf partners, he can piss off.

So it was a difficult and miserable month of August but, I have since hooked up with a cool dude I used to play in a league with years ago when I saw him on our membership list as a newb this year. We played last week and had a blast and he invited me to play this morning at the other private course he belongs to. Then, he happens to be good buds with my wife's friend's husband who belongs to another area private club and the three of us are also playing tomorrow at our home club. So I have matches and invites from two other blokes and I'm on my way to new waters.

Not even upset about Phil anymore...been through the sadness and the anger and out the other side it's meh, who cares?

So this course I'm playing today is very challenging....hoping I break 90!

For a couple of weeks i was hitting my driver really well, went from averaging 220-240 yards to hitting 280-300 yds right down the middle.

and just like that, it's gone. I had started incorporating my wrist more which I had avoided because it gets me in trouble...like i am now...but for awhile if worked really well.
