Oh, I guess they're just doing it for today. That makes a little more sense.

Two months to fit in the draft lottery, the draft, free agency and training camp?

Ouch. Good luck to them.

They could make it work. Biggest issue is if players are ok with only 1.5 months off but you have to give something. They just all been off for 3 months.

Draft and free agency is fine IMO. There just won't be any summer/fall league but all the good free agency action takes place in the first week or 2

With all signs pointing towards the NBA having some season games, there's plenty of possible position changes before the playoffs

Well.....we should have an exciting postseason.....players have had the lockdown to get healthy.....wonder if KD could be available with the extra time to heal up. The Nets could be a surprise/sleeper team in the EC if he's healthy.

It really isn’t that simple. I wish it were.

Why

I don't understand making this so difficult. No other industry is opening with this amount of concern for testing and the players are going in a bubble and have limited contact with people. I get we are talking a contact sport but it's a contact sports with limited contacts...versus the server at a restaurant who has to wait on several hundred different people

Oh and one more thing....these guys don't even know they have the fucking virus when they do! The risk to these players is far less than the risk they take every time they drive their cars at night

So the last day an NBA game gets played in probably mid October?

When would the 20-21 season start then? And free agency?

It's going to be interesting to say the least.

They'd probably target Christmas for the start of the season. Free Agency shouldn't be an issue imo. There's really no reason why it can't start like literally the day after the last Finals game. I mean it won't, but I'm just saying all the teams have their work done anyway so there's not like there's a need to have a prolonged waiting period. If it started like 3 days after the last Finals game or a week later, it'd be fine. Most of the teams are filled out within a month in normal times so you'd have roughly a month or so to prepare get prepared for a Christmas start.

The REAL issue is gonna be how many games is the 20-21 season gonna be. Will they try for a full 82 (99% certain they will. TV money too important)? If so, how long into next summer are they gonna push it. If not, how many games are they gonna play and how many months will it be (more back to backs? 3 games in 4 nights?) etc.

Finishing this season is actually the easy part. Negotiating next season is gonna be the difficult part, especially considering league revenue will be down which means the salary cap will be down which means there's potential for an owner's vs players situation over the money split. Complicating things further is the crowd size (and if you can have them by then) is still unknown. You'd think by the end of the year you'll have SOME fans, but maybe not 100% capacity which again hurts revenues.

Thinking about it more closely, and being kinda high, I am convinced a big part of the craziness and rioting is due to lockdown fatigue and Covid stress. And a big part of that is no sports to channel energy. I think it's a real thing. And it's been gone for months and it's taking a toll. The NBA has to do come back asap,.it's ok to take a little risk, it's necessary

Sure.

The testing process and procedures might be simple.

The part that isn’t simple is what happens if a bunch of players test positive?

All I am saying is that even once a deal is struck, crowning a champion is not a sure thing.

Bro.

They aren’t going to be allowed to play with the Rona.

You keep making versions of this comment over and over. This comment is also why our problem might persist longer than it should. If every healthy person had the mindset of “well, it won’t really matter if I get it because I am young and healthy”, then what do you think happens with the spread of the virus?

That's why you test in and then screen for symptoms. Then test out to quarantine from immunocompromised people.

Anyone with symptoms gets quarantined. Asymptomatic players would just keep going.

It's barely a thread for a young healthy person. It's even less a threat than the flu for kids actually.

It’s to the point where I don’t even care about the details. I mean I got a job, it’s time for someone to do theirs and get this worked out so the Thunder can shock the world!

Yeah, that will be interesting. Everyone will have had a lot of extra time off, so I would thing they would be okay with less time off for 1 season.

The NBA seems to do the best job of league officials, owners and players all working together to get things accomplished out of all of the professional sports leagues.

I'm sure things will get a little contentious...we're talking about a helluva lot of money. But I think they'll be able to work something out that all sides can live with.
