In truth the Redskins are not served by having a expensive, aging and unhappy player report to the team. This is not "winning" for the Redskins. The real battle is trying to get a team, any team to pay up for him. The problem is in this situation ( trade + big contract ) the team with the player doesn't get fair compensation. Bargain hard but take what the market bares, that's about as close to "winning" as you can get in these situations.

Trent and his agent insist he's one of the top players in the NFL - yet they also say the Skins are being unreasonable for requiring a 2nd round pick for him?

It's very important to Trent to eventually be in the Skins Ring of Fame, yet he's so disgusted with the organization that he refuses to play for it.

I'm sooooooo sick of this situation.

Skins blew it by not trading him last year, but... that doesn't excuse TW in any way, shape or form.

Its either a 2nd round pick or 3rd round pick plus player or another pic next year. It is what it is or Trent can sit next year and not accrue his FA status. Perhaps if he and his agent come down on their demands (contract) that a deal may perhaps be struck.

my thing with trent is this . welcome to the real world ace . i have to work some nuclear plants that dont pay as well as others and work for bosses that dont care for their employees that my friend is called life . the washington redskins will carry on without you just as the nuke world will carry on without me

unless you own your own business those are life's realities . so man up trent and understand what the real world is

the other thing is if you trusted a sports DR to handle your growth , then you were a complete fool and you are old enough to know better . YOU and YOU alone are responsible for your health and you have been in the football business long enough to know a team DR's agenda . they are paid to get your ass on the field period

the above paragraph assumes this is what the issue you were complaining about is true

it now comes down to money . the med staff has been replaced and so has BA and i suspect its the very root of your issue from day one . when you signed the contract you are among-st the highest played at your position . you chose the length and the pay so whose fault is that ? it was your lack of foresight that caused this

your actions dont match up to your talk and people see that

Agent: Trent Williams isn’t looking for $20 million per season
Trent Williams' agent Vince Taylor released a statement this week asking that Washington trade or release his client, which comes after protracted acrimony between the two sides and amid reports that Williams is looking for $20 million a season in a new contract. Never bought that load of crap from the beginning and I had always liked Trent. Maybe you can get in that same ring as Fat Albert got in Trent.

This agent is full of shit. Just a month ago, he stated that Trent should be paid as one of the best players in the league, regardless of position. That would put him well above the $20M figure. Now he is trying to back step it because NO ONE was going to pay him what this agent thought he could get.

You guys really got yourselves into a bad spot here.

He got pissed at the medical staff first, right?

For a 3rd I'd do it and work on the contract after. Really baby him and praise him until he comes down to an appropriate number. But legitimate franchise LTs are usually worth whatever they cost. An offense can't function without one.

I don't see why the Bucs wouldn't make a play. They are a tackle short. And Arians likes long routes and Brady is used to being clean all game.

Well, nobody knows if the medical story came before he and his team decided upon seeking more money.
That story prevails because of how it wad reported in the news.

Do you really believe that he's only worth a 3rd? Why should Washington settle for that considering your correctly stated value that left tackles bring to an offense?

Finally, if you are familiar with the Bucs, any thoughts on what they might be willing to offer in compensation other than that 3rd round selection? (Perhaps a pick and/or a player like...O.J. Howard)

I'm not so sure about that. THE highest paid current LT is getting 18M, the next group around 16M, so being paid "as one of" the best in the league puts him in one of those two areas, not 20M.

Williams is slated to make 12.5M in 2020.

He's worth more than a 3rd, but there is some risk there since he hasn't played in a while and was hurt. I was trying to say, for only a 3rd, I'd do it now and figure out the salary stuff later.

If I was the Bucs GM this would already be over if I could flip OJ Howard for him.

I was the Bucs GM in a mock off-season last year and traded OJ Howard for a high 2nd rounder. Always hurt and doesn't fit an Arians offense. I always thought it was a dumb pick even before they got Arians.

O.J Howard is interesting. if its him and a 3rd round pick it should get the deal done.
