Dak Prescott joins Dan Marino as the only QBs in Superbowl era with 40 plus wins & 15,000 yds passing in their 1st 4 seasons.

He averages double digit wins per season. Not to bad.
Now lets see what he can do with a (allegedly) more aggressive coach.
McCarthy will get Dak to a higher level.

I agree to a point. I think the Cowvoys should offer $33 million...which is more than Wentz and Goff got.. If that isn't enough, then tag him and start getting ready to move on. That would mean signing a quality backup and using a 1st or 2nd round pick on a QB. Problem is, what I think the Cowboys will do is tag him and go into next season with Cooper Rush as the only other QB on the roster.. Which makes no sense at all.
That would be dumb, but if they cant get deal done then Dak will be tagged.

Word is Dak is gonna holdout if they tag him. This is ridiculous all this could’ve been avoided if they paid him earlier instead of waiting till the last minute, would’ve gotten him cheaper now that Mahomes and Watson are coming up it’ll be even more expensive. Same could’ve been done with Zeke, idk why the front office is hellbent on making life harder on themselves.

The longer this takes, the harder it will be to sign him to an extension.

LOL. I guess it is all about the money. Comical. Cowboys need to be careful and not overpay. Dak is a good QB who needs a great line, a great running back and a great receivers to excel. This one is going to get interesting.

Scroll on ESPN says they are planning to tag Dak.

While very possible or likely if they can't agree to a deal, but with the lack of information not being released by any side I doubt the Cowboys have officially passed that to the media.
Honestly it doesn't take a genius to figure out If no deal is made the Cowboys MUST Franchise Tag Dak.

Everyone needs to know.
Putting Dak on a Fran tag was always about to happen. (after the season ended)
That has to be apart of negotiating from either side.
Now if Dak plays under the tag all cowboy fans has to know he is not going to be a long term Cowboy.

My guess is he will get tagged at some point & time, but have his huge contract before week one.

Everything else is clickbait.

I don't think it is just click bait at all. QB isn't like other positions. If he is tagged and signs it, it's no big deal for this year and we can keep negotiating on a long term deal until like July (I think?). If he doesn't sign it (at least 50/50 he won't right?) it means he holds out. If he holds out it is a huge deal for this team. If he holds out and misses camp and signs late in the offseason it is a huge problem for the Cowboys with a new HC and new Offense to learn. If he holds out we may need to bring in a QB and if it is a starting caliber QB we need to do that before the Summer so they don't sign elsewhere. If we do this and based on the salary we give the QB, it means for cap reasons we may need to rescind the tag to Dak. We can't be sitting here in July with no Dak and no replacement. If we are forced to sign another QB and can get a "Fitzpatrick or Bridgewater type" then we can probably fit both him and Dak and it gives us time without worrying that the season is over before it starts.

IMO the Dak saga is finalized before the draft or it is going to be a big problem. The longer it drags on the more Dak can holds us hostage or the team is pressured to find a "startable" QB.

Jay Glazer of The Athletic confirms impending free agent Dak Prescott has not asked for $40 million annually in contract talks with Dallas.
It was reported last week that Prescott turned down an extension worth a whopping $33 million annually last summer. It's going to cost Dallas a pretty penny to keep Prescott, though Glazer doesn't see Dak approaching a $40 million AAV. Despite thorny negotiations, Glazer is confident the two sides will eventually find a middle ground. "Dak will be the quarterback of the Cowboys. Period. End of story," the veteran reporter offered in his weekly Mailbag column. "Whether they franchise Dak, give him an extension, or whatever it is, it’s going to get done."

Take a one year flyer on Rivers, if Dak holds out.

Unlike other years, there are a few options this year. The two obvious are Brady and Rivers. But if you tag Dak, you can't give those guys $30+M for a year and then have Dak come in and sign the tag for another $30+M. So if you tag him and he doesn't sign it and you bring in a guy for a year you need to rescind the tag or you crush your cap and pay over $60M for a QB for one year. The team needs to know around the beginning of FA what their strategy will be if Dak isn't already signed by then.

Hopefully we get it done. We need him in camp to learn the new offense. I’m sure his plan is to hold out if he is tagged.

I don’t want him traded. If it did happen though , what could he actually bring back in return. Before everyone says two - three first rounders at least , please remember they will be getting someone that wants around 40 mill/ yr.

I suspect not too much via a trade. I am always surprised when teams trade a lot for a player and then pay them a fortune instead of just signing a FA. Would a team be that much more interested in bringing in Dak than either Brady or Rivers as a FA that they would also commit a ton more money and a first round pick to do so? I suspect not. Regardless, I think a trade is an unlikely scenario. I think it's (1) sign, (2) tag and "eventually" play or (3) tag, sign someone else and rescind tag. With non-QBs you can have both the current player and replacement player on the team at the same time. With QB you can't, so the logistics of working out a trade within the cap are I suspect difficult. If we tag and rescind we still get a comp pick the next year, right?

I like Dak he is a really good QB with the potential to be a better with the right teachers around him. You can’t fault his leadership skills not being the wrong guy wrong place ala Johnny football or even zeke. This a business on both sides I don’t fault him wanting to get his $$$ and I don’t fault Jerry tryinG to pay the least amount he can.
To me if they tag him and he holds out I’m done. Time to move on. You can try and trade him if you can and get what you can. The pie is only so big and the NFL is set up to win with a cheap really good QB once they get paid its window closed with out Bill Bellichick type coaching and even then other players have to buy in to taking less for the chance at a ring and that will catch up also. See the PATS, GB,Rams, Eagles for examples.
Dallas is about to be top heavy on contracts again. With ZEKE and Lawrence and the OL you just can’t pay everybody top dollar.
QB is the most important you have one or you don’t. BUT when your QB eats up close to 20% of your cap space your team is left to scramble trying to fill in and catch the genie in the bottle 1 year to win it all. Can it be done sure it can but the odds say it’s not going to happen most of the time.

now before I get killed for hating on Dak I don’t now and won’t if he signs for big $$ but Dallas will have a hard time competing IMHO if he signs a blockbuster contract.

Jerry has done some things I would not have contract wise. I would not have signed Lawrence or ZEKE or Smith to those extensions but that’s me and I don’t own the team but with that money you could pay Dak pickup a running back in the draft and another LB and some really high value FA while you look to replace DE.
Thats 1 way and I am not saying the right way and I know you guys have 5000 others.

We will see how things turn out but for now lots to ponder until things heat up one way or another.
