So to recap, the Heat, who had no cap space heading into last summer added: Butler, AI, Crowder and Hill at the expense of Whiteside, Dion, JJ and wheelchair Winslow.

I forgot to include J Rich in this, which was a loss, and also Leonard as an addition, although he’s flawed.

With all due respect. Iggy is not an elite defender anymore.
He is 36. Well past his prime.
He is a decent pickup sure but it doesnt move the needle that much

Agree, Gallo would have though imo

Being a Knicks fan I’m getting pretty use to them coming away every nba trade deadline disappointed. Let’s hope they can do something with the draft picks they got. But I wouldn’t hold my breath

But isn’t this true about life and work life in general? People and employers can turn on you in a minute and fire you. But as for him going from Detroit to Cleveland it goes bad to worse for him.

Definitely agree about your statement about life and work in general. It's not a social club, it's a business. My guess is the feeling in the organization was that he would opt out this summer and they'd be left with nothing, so they took what little they could get for him.

As far as going from bad to worse, I expect the Cavs to be more successful with him in the lineup for the rest of the year than Detroit would have been. Having him down low is going to allow Love to take advantage of more open shots on the perimeter. Drummond is an exponentially better center than Tristan Thompson, who isn't much a scoring threat down low like Drummond is. Probably too late for the Cavs to sneak into the 8 spot in the East, but they'll be much improved, IMO.

The Andre Iguodala sweepstakes was one of the biggest storylines heading into the deadline, and the Heat came away as big winners. They traded away a promising, if oft-injured, young player in Winslow, but they ended up with Iguodala, a veteran wing who not only helps in the locker room on a young team (Warriors coach Steve Kerr used to call Iguodala "the babysitter" in Golden State) but also provides wing depth and an elite defender to throw at Eastern Conference perimeter threats like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Pascal Siakam, Jayson Tatum and Victor Oladipo. If that weren't enough, the Heat also add Crowder, a useful 3-and-D wing (though his shooting has waned in recent years) with valuable playoff experience.

This trade takes on added significance because it also sets the Heat up for future transactions. They shed the bloated contracts of Johnson and Waiters, which frees up cap space, and the second year of Iguodala's $30 million extension has a team option in case the Heat can court one of the coveted 2021 free agents. This trade allows the Heat to not only contend this season, but also to become even more powerful over the next two seasons. For that, it's the most significant trade of the deadline. And for what it's worth, Winslow is a nice piece to add to a young, up-and-coming Grizzlies team that's way ahead of schedule.

Surely, the Heat have chosen to sacrifice some out of their future potential on Winslow, in order to have a (harder) push now, but the Bucks refusing to answer and rather deciding to stay put instead also means something... doesn't it?

I guess Toronto staying put, has to do with most of their key core players being expiring this season other than being aging and therefore not being tempting enough for other teams to give significant return which would advance the Raptors chances for this season, but the Bucks are a completely different case, because they could have been investing (and then perhaps with better chances on the results than the Heat given the financials and stock on assets and picks) if they would worry about the competition ending up able to beat them...

It means that they don't worry, but thought that it is better to advance the team further for the next season during the summer, doesn't it?

Who said anything about the Bucks?
They’ve clearly been the best team so far, but they also were last year.
I wouldn’t pick against them in the East.

Kind of shocking that the Warriors acquired 4 second round draft picks for WCS, Burks and Glenn Robinson III and yet the Bucks couldn't get anything for their guys.

Also no D-Rose trade for the Bucks or anyone even remotely close to that.

So the Cavs goal for the rest of the season is to lessen their odds in the lotto ?

They're 9 games out of the 8 spot with 30 games left, so making the playoffs is highly unlikely, but not impossible. My guess is they are thinking with Tristan Thompson's contract up at the end of the year freeing up a ton of space, and with the power to offer Drummond more than anyone else, they can get him to sign with them. They gave up nothing to get him, so it was well worth it for them I think.

giving up a 2nd for bird rights is fine.

this is a terrible draft anyway.

but it is kinda weird. Maybe you play him tt and love together to preserve the tank....
