Undeniable. And he was consistently good for a very long time.

...against 6' 5" power forwards. How did he do against Wilt and the others listed?
Great, so we've just proven that Bill Russell isn't the greatest basketball player ever. :suds:

How did he do? 11 rings in 13 years says it all. And you chopped up my comment & left off the part where I said not saying he's the greatest player, far from it. He's the greatest winner the NBA has ever seen. Or do you disagree with that?

Very difficult to find someone under the age of 75 who thinks Russell is GOAT

My Dad is 70, and he'll argue til the cows come home about it. I've had some really good basketball discussions with older guys and they usually either say Bill Russell or Kareem are the GOAT.

Is your dad a former boxer perhaps?

I understand perfectly that you don't think he's greatest player. I was trying to respond to specific statements.

"How did he do? 11 rings in 13 years says it all."

No, that's what the team did. How did he do? He was consistently good his entire career; kind of like hundreds and hundreds of others who've played the game.

"He's the greatest winner the NBA has ever seen."

Based on rings, yes.

No, but he was obsessed with basketball from the rise of the Celtics to their decline post-Bird. He was a rabid Celtics fan and I was a rabid Showtime Lakers fan. It got very uncomfortable around mid-May almost every year.

No. We are simply asking if Rodgers is a top 20 QB or not.

But I swear, Rodgers apologists have more excuses than a truant student. It’s always someone else’s fault with this dude.
Kind of reminds of the Wentz truthers

I have trouble with all time debates because the game has been so different through the years. I find it easier to discuss players of the same generations

Fair enough, but you can factor it in to determining if a QB is at least effective and gets the job done. Marino was obviously an all time great and it's not his fault he didn't win a Superbowl and Dilfer did. But then again, if a mediocre QB is playing instead of JG, does their team have a 21-5 record and a SB appearance? I say no, I say he's pretty good. Not great (yet, could happen) but better than all but 7-8 of the guys out there now.
i agree you can certainly factor it into being effective. But being effective vs being elite or top 10 is different, and thats where those discussions usually take place. But there in lies the issue. Jimmy again is an example....21-5, largely unproven, but his record is sterling. Now your saying hes better than mediocre? is he? Again, im not having that convo here. Im agreeing with you on how things are viewed, and should be viewed. But the record almost ALWAYS supports your argument when you want it to, or dont have much else, and reverts back to "its a team thing" when it doesnt support someones views.

Yes he's pretty good. Not mediocre. We simply disagree. It's just sports chatter.

I'm only 39 and think Kareem is the GOAT.

With his pitiful performance in the NFC Championship Game yesterday, he fell to 10-8 all-time in the playoffs. That’s a lower playoff winning percentage than Donovan McNabb.

So, what say you?

I would think so, but he looks like he don't want to be out there anymore....Maybe he is unhappy with FO for not getting more playmakers or coaching etc....But he don't look like he has any fire in him to me....

I wouldn't have any fire either if I was a young, rich athlete who found myself entangled with this bitch.

Ok. And that's fine. I was trying to be very clear today's Convo was NOT me and you debating jimmy g.
It was how people use that argument.

Rodgers has had to carry that team his entire career and is probably unhappy with the lack of playmakers. He's 36 and he sees his window closing quickly. The Packers defense has been substandard most of his career in Green Bay.
