That’s well said. I agree. I’m not a non retaliatory pussy. I just think there is no longer room for that in the game. Yes, there is no longer room for what Clowney did either. But two wrongs don’t make a right when such a dangerous game is being played.
Will this happen when they play again??? I doubt it but it will be interesting to see what, if anything happens next time.

I think the optics is that Wentz did get up and his teammates didn't realize the extent of the hit until later.

I would like to think that if he laid there motionless and had to be stretchered off the field, then the response would have been different.
Good point

Ok, good point.

Whose job is it to make sure the team watches the replay at halftime or sooner?

Any chance we can package Alshon with a 4th or 5th round pick to unload his contract?

I don't trust the FO with that many draft picks, so instead of wasting them on another Thorson, dump some salary and find FA WR that can actually stay on the field and produce.
Lol yes let's do that.

Not like they'd draft a good WR with it.

Nope. There was lots of room for it and the Seahawks are still playing because he took advantage of the room given to him. There's room for it because there were no consequences.

Fair question. Jenkins? Peters?

I'm wondering if Pederson told the team there's nothing they can do about it now, control your emotions, and take it out on the football field. The team may have been in a fragile state knowing Wentz wasn't coming back. Difficult to plot revenge considering that they were still in the game up until the final 2 minutes.

Mind you, I'm not giving anyone a free pass, but I need more information.
They should be giving interviews in about an hour, so perhaps we'll get more on this.

Would wind up costing about $500K in dead cap plus the pick. If someone who needs the salary cap money would do it (hello Miami!), I'd be happy to move on.

I am just really surprised that the NFL didn't act on it. He lead with his helmet, which should have been enough to warrant a fine or something, right? I don't care if he was established as a runner or not, the hit itself was still dirty.

Trade, pre-June 1st: $16.1 million in dead money, costs $750K to cut
Trade, post-June 1st: $5.5 million in dead money, $9.9 million in cap savings

That's what I found.
That's $9.9M that you can use to go after Robbie Anderson or take a flier on a Randall Cobb. Or go after a safety.

Yeah, the guy is clearly falling down, and Clowney clearly adjusts his body to deliver the hardest hit possible. Clowney just as easily could have pushed him down.

Haven't found the post-June 1 numbers yet.

How would that impact the cap on the receiving team?

Robby Anderson is my choice.

If they renegotiate the CBA. Makes sense why it's not on Spotrac and Overthecap right now.

If they don't factor in the June 1st rules, then yeah, it wouldn't be on there.

$9.9M base salary in 2020 that the other team would pick up.
$15.7 cap hit in 2020 for the Eagles.
The difference would be 'dead money' that the Eagles have to eat, right?

15.7-9.9=5.8, which seems awfully close to that 5.5M that would be 'dead' money.
Just has to happen after June 1st for whatever reason.

or put his hands out to catch himself. Instead he lowers his helmet to drive it into Wentz's back or helmet

Post-June 1 designation allows them to push part of the dead hit into 2021.

Since there isn't a CBA for 2021 yet, the option isn't technically there.

I don't know all the technicalities of the cap and how it all works, I just know where to go to find the numbers.

Wait a minute...straight cutting Jeffrey post June 1 would cost something in the $5M range? If so....just do it!!
