The possibility of a solid rotation is there. Just have to see how it all pans out. But it is why I wasn't jumping off a cliff over what we have done or not done this off season. You add in Joely Rodriguez as a bonus for the pen. Still have work to do but some good things have been done with money still to spend.Early ESPN projection for our rotation,
1. Washington
2. Yankees
3. Mets
4. Reds
5. Cleveland
7. Red Sox
8. Rays
9. Astros
10. Dodgers
11. Cardinals
12. Phillies
13. Cubs
14. Braves
15. D-backs
6. Texas Rangers (391.7)
Projected starters![]()
1. Lance Lynn (Score of 439.0 ranks No. 14; 1st-division No. 1)
2. Mike Minor (Score of 404.4 ranks No. 27; 2nd-division No. 1)
3. Corey Kluber (Score of 392.1 ranks No. 36; 1st-division No. 2)
4. Kyle Gibson (Score of 382.3 ranks No. 45; 1st-division No. 2)
5. Jordan Lyles (Score of 347.3 ranks No. 88; 2nd-division No. 3)
6. Kolby Allard (Score of 314.4 ranks No. 151; 1st-division No. 6)
7. Brock Burke (Score of 307.8 ranks No. 168; 2nd-division No. 6)
You might not think of Lynn as an ace, even though he finished fifth in last year's AL Cy Young balloting. In our book, if you project as a first-division No. 1, you're an ace. Rangers GM Jon Daniels has put together his strongest on-paper rotation in years. This system sees Texas as flashing two No. 1s, two No. 2s and a No. 3. That's pretty good. And don't sleep on Allard as the depth option. He's not that far removed from top-prospect status. The Rangers' roster needs some work, but without springing for a mega-contract, Daniels has shored up a glaring weakness in the Texas outlook.
and his defense is average.
Seems I was being optimistic about his defense: Danny Santana has the most experience there across the course of his career but he was well below average last season in CF posting a -29.8 UZR/150 in 191.2 innings.
Here's played the equivalent of one season (128 starts) there spread over his career (62 his rookie year in 2014 and 39 starts in 2016), he hasn't had the opportunity to get better, that's why i don't like the utility role for him, he's pretty much lousy at every position he plays except 2B, and he'd probably be behind Odor and Solak there
DDJ was once pretty lousy covering CF but got better with time
In a perfect world, the starting position players wouldn't get injured. That would leave him warming the bench most of the time.In a perfect world he is a great utility guy, injury replacement fill in who will and should do good with many ABs.
But with all the holes in this team he is going to need to start and the best place is CF. We may end up having a good defensive replacement as needed. No interest trading for Marte. His defense has regressed.
I was wondering just yesterday when our interest would turn toward him.For what it's worth:

Not sure what to think of it yet. He bounced back somewhat last year but had a number of years of injuries and Mendoza line like stats.I was wondering just yesterday when our interest would turn toward him.

Er. Ok. How about almost perfect worldIn a perfect world, the starting position players wouldn't get injured. That would leave him warming the bench most of the time.

If we ever get close enough to perfect, where we have enough talent to squeeze him out of the lineup, he probably would be worth more in trade than on the bench.Er. Ok. How about almost perfect world
But yes. Do think he is starting CF unless we do not have adequate 3B

That's fine. He has had like 4 months of success in his entire career. People believing in Danny Santana is still a weird thing to me. Maybe he'll be that 1 out of 5 guy that finally put it together. Chances are he goes back to sucking. In a perfect world, the starting position players wouldn't get injured. That would leave him warming the bench most of the time.
He has had success every time he has received consistent playing time. Every. Time. That's fine. He has had like 4 months of success in his entire career.
