By the way, does anyone think that Tomlin bears at least a little responsibility in any of this? I mean they were down 2 TD's with under a minute to play and no timeouts, and they were around their own 10 or 15 yard line, and he's still trying to have Rudolph drop back and air it out? That seemed silly to me last night even before the melee broke out. I kept saying why don't they just take the knee and end this boring game? And as a result of Tomlin deciding to keep going for it he ended up getting Rudolph sacked (hard) twice on back to back plays, and nearly a third time when Garrett hit him late. If Tomlin just takes a knee on any of those last 3 snaps none of the fighting would ever have happened. So does anyone agree with me that Tomlin should have just conceded the game, took the knees and went to the dressing room?

Absolutely not.

Same could be said for Kitchens. They game was over and not need to have your star defenders out there. Really both coaches are equal on this one but yeah really silly.

The the complete utter nonsense from the refs to have them continue to play with 8 seconds left. :L

I agree, and I don't agree. Maybe Kitchens shouldn't have had his starters out there, but when it is obvious the other team is going to continue to score on you even though it's a lost cause I can understand Kitchens not wanting to let that happen. If the Steelers just took the knee then there'd have been no reason for Kitchens to try and break up the play anymore. I'd say 85% Tomlin and 15% Kitchens for blame.

Anyway this is what I see:

Rudolph - fine
Ogunjobi - Fine
DeCastro - Fine (even though he did nothing wrong but being in the middle of it and we are using NFL Logic)
Pouncy - 2 games (will appeal then dropped to 1 game)
Garrett - 6 games (will appeal then dropped to 3 games)

Not putting any onus on who is wrong or who started it but the nature of the actions and remember this is all NFL logic.

They are going to throw the book at this dude to make an example. He may not play until the middle of next season. That would be my guess.

If you are going to blame the offensive coach for still trying to play then the same is said for the defensive coach.

It depends on how they view his overraction...as you said technically he was the instigator.

Ya, but guys instigate shit all game long. Grabbing a facemask, or giving a shove is pretty normal. But swinging a helmet at a player's head who no longer has a helmet on is taking a leap beyond football and may even creep into the criminal law area. None the less, being an instigator has never got anyone suspended and I doubt it will here either. Rudolph couldn't have known, or expected how badly Garrett would over react just because they were roughing it up a bit.

Yeah, but in that situation the team down never kneels to end the game.

You would think they would just run the clock out, but you rarely ever see the losing team do that...I can't put that on Tomlin.

Kitchens is coaching a very undisciplined team and deserves some of the blame.

This team is very undisclipined, you can't fault him for a single act but you can fault him bc he doesn't even seem he is the leader. The team is controlled by the players at this point, it's sickening. Stupid penalties, bonehead plays and now fights.

It's very difficult to watch this team play without going insane.

Made a comment on that last night. He comes across as "bush league" talking like that.

Certainly does. He probably will get a huge reality check in regards to his comments. Who is the Steelers back up to him? He might be starting next week

Absolutely not.

Not even a little? He clearly knew the game was lost at that point so whey keep risking your QB and why keep trying to air it out? He had to know that was going to rev up the Cleveland defense. That doesn't excuse the Cleveland defense either, I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying that Tomlin's choice to keep playing instead of just kneeling definitely had some ripple effects.

I don't know the precedents here, but I can see the NFL giving Mason a game. If they don't...okay...that will just make Garrett fume a little more.

Fair enough. I was just throwing that out there as something to consider.

Burficts behavior typically gets him suspended for the reast of a season. I think this exceeds that. I think you have to give him at least a year, until week 10 of next season....at the least. If you don't, and he does this again and turns someone into a vegetable, I don't think the NFL could recover from that. But, at least a year, but this might warrant something even more extreme. Browns should just cut all ties.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges
He did started against the Chargers and won.

For how pathetic the Steelers offense is (due to all the injuries) he would be a better fit. At least in the pocket he isn't a slug with no awareness.
