If I was a betting man, I would be willing to bet that you would be okay with Odor starting as long as they keep running him out there.

There is no insider information lol. It is common sense and can be seen when rose colored glasses are not worn. Woody makes out the lineup, but he does it based on what the organization is trying to accomplish. Even the Homer beat guys like Evan acknowledge Odor's contract has been in play when it comes to his status in the organization.

My question is, why does it bother you so much for folks to blame management for things? I see guys on here lay into players for one bad at bat or one bad pitch selection sequence, and that never seems to bother you. We had calls in the past for Choo to be "launched to the moon" and not a peep, but in this situation you seem to take it personal. You certainly have the right to feel that way and to express those feelings, but I sure don't get it.

By the way, I think ownership is pretty much hands off. For the most part, JD is the chief decision maker in upper management.

I am not aware of any personal connection and surely am not upset in the least. Especially this year when it really does not matter too much except in players beginning to learn how to win.

I have stated come next year I hope the best players play. But if Odor is there I would hope he will have made some permanent adjustments, we have a bulk of contact hitters, Solak is playing if he is the better player and Odor is batting low in the lineup.

You seem to like to ask questions but deflect a bit when I throw them out. All good- it’s your choice
BTW Odor is the convenient whipping boy but we have plenty of holes.

1.Is Odor stunting any one players development this year?
2.Solak is playing daily and probably should get more time in the field but don’t think he is stunted. Do you think it is an accident we traded for him?
3. Where is the insider info that the FO office is making out the lineup? Is it JD or ownership if this is the case?

Really surprised in a developmental year like this that Odors playing time stirs up such emotional mudslinging responses. But maybe being able to sound off like this is fun or therapeutic for some. Maybe like me doing this Ha

IMO it’s not that big of a deal one way or another this year and might work to our advantage.

1) our upper farm system has been so barren that surprisingly enough odor was blocking nobody.

2) JD appears to have made a good trade. Solak looks like a ML bat.

3) I’ve seen it in an article or interview somewhere that woody stated he is “aware” of the “ financial commitment” that the team has made to odor. That should tell you all that you need to know.

I think what most people have an issue with is, yes this is a developmental year and no we’re not trying to win. I acknowledge that. At the same time, this is the highest level of the game. These guys get paid the big bucks.

Fans also pay their hard earned money and spend countless hours watching these guys and following the team. With that said, unless we’re tanking for the #1 overall draft pick “ we’re not” then after the first few months of a season, I think the rangers owe it to the fans to play the best players they have.

I always keep going back to that incident a few months ago. We had to send someone down to make room for pence I think. The rangers send down willie Calhoun who was doing ok, but not terribly. They decided to keep both Guzman and odor up here who were both playing worse than double AA players. Calhoun took one look at the stats, saw that he was doing much better than Mathis ( who gets a pass for defense), condor, and Odor. Calhoun was pissed.

Look at Calhoun today. He’s one of our best hitters now. We still might have to trade him the last year that he’s here because we’ve pissed him off one too many times.

The point I’m trying to make is that I acknowledge that it’s up to the front office to pay guys and it’s up to the manager to play guys, but the lineup decisions should have some semblance of meritocracy. The rangers have not been filling out lineup cards based on that this year. I always think of that coach from the movie remember the Titans “the best players will play”. That seems like the kind of philosophy that any good coach would have.

If you listen to rangers radio shows and look at Twitter, most of the rangers fan base is sick of watching odor perform like a minor league player who gets “regular” major league playing time.

The difference is that Calhoun does not play any of those positions, 2B, 1B or catcher

The other part of that equation is that Santana still needed everyday playing time. He could’ve easily replaced either one.

Thanks for your thoughts.
1. Yes it was barren so no big deal. But earlier we could have maybe played Santana more at 2B to open others spots. Santana got his ABs but I think he has had a long year and not near as hot as earlier
2 agreed and this is a good hedge in the likelihood especially in the fan base that Odor is pushed out
3. This is very difficult path to tread as FO surely did not think all their TJ rejects would work well. Maybe only one. This is the posturing. They competed better than expected the first half but still sold pieces minus Minor which is another controversy. Some think he never was available but of course I think anyone is available for he right price. Point is despite rhetoric that we were competing and we did. The realism is we were really only developing and after ASB we should expect to see players start who are a part of the future are being evaluated. This is my take

I think we were low balled and JD didn’t give in. We just seem to be rebuilding at the wrong time. While the rangers were competing, it seemed like we were always buying in a sellers market.

Now, when we’re rebuilding, it seems like competition for prospects is unusually high and we’re seeing buyers markets every year. The only thing the rangers have been able to move with any success is relievers.

Teams are way too scared to trade their prospects. It’s even hurting some teams ability to win the World Series in any given year. It’s a different mentality and I imagine the Rangers front office is frustrated by it. Thankfully we have still been able to acquire good young talent from teams like TB and Atlanta.

If you had asked me specifically I would have answered. I explained to Crawler why Odor was playing so I didn't view those questions as directed at me.

Actually Santana, to begin with, and now Solak would both be better options at 2B than Odor has been for the better part of the year. Both could use more big league experience at 2B.

Next time you are going to complain about me not answering a question, please ask me the question to begin with. That would be helpful.

No matter how long they play Odor without what you call permanent adjustments, you will agree with management that he should be plaayed.
