And many Cowboy haters will call this "caving" or a loss for Dallas.

If he is now the highest paid RB in the league, what would you call it?

Had we not given up a 1st rounder for him, he wouldn't have any leverage for a big payday. We need to sign Dak and tag Amari if Gallup doesn't take the expected leap this year.
That's like 17 mil or so though.

It'll be interesting to see how Jerry handles Amari. If he balls out maybe the tag is in play, idk. Just seems beyond his level to me. Not that I don't think he's the #1 on a lot teams, just not that true top tier.

But you're right on him being more valueable where he is on account of the cost of acquiring.

I would call it "show me the details". As I have said all along, I'm fine with him getting a 6/125 as long as the last two years are 90M of it and not guaranteed until the first day of each league year.

I think you'll be sad when you see the details.

I think he is making like $13.5M this year, so a $17M tag isn't a huge leap. If he reverts to OAK WR then he won't get anything. If he does what he did the end of last year, Jerry will take care of him. or tag him.

Shit, didn't realize he made that much.

Tag makes a lot more sense then.

Not really this was the right move there just isn't a need to spin it and pretend Jerry is some master negotiator

I'm not expecting to be sad. Not with them talking about a 6 year extension. That puts him under contract for 8 years. There are no 8 year guarantees at signing. I'm expecting two of the extension years guaranteed at signing and not much else except maybe some injury protection. Zeke will get his "highest paid" moniker and the team will get their RB back. But it will in essence be a $30M guarantee deal with most of it signing bonus.

And even more will need to spin it as "Jerry is a terrible GM". Zeke could walk in the door with ave min contract and somehow there would be those saying Jerry fucked it up. I've been playing this game for far too long.

Not saying that either think Jerry is one of if not the best owners in the league(Passion for the game and his team), but as a GM he's just slightly above average he just lets his ego get out of control at times.

Cowboys signed Ezekiel Elliott to a six-year, $90 million contract extension.
The deal includes a whopping $50 million guaranteed. Zeke's $15 million annually not only surpasses Todd Gurley's previous league-high mark of $14.375 million per year, it officially makes the 24-year-old Cowboys star the league's highest-paid runner and ties him to Dallas through the 2026 season. Archer reports Elliott will be on the field practicing Wednesday, but there's been no word on any limitations or timeshare as he settles back in post-Cabo holdout. Assuming he's good to go for Sunday, Elliott is a clear-cut top-three fantasy option in Dallas' season opener against the Giants.

Jerry the GM is below average, I am a realist :)

But that is why Stephen is running more of the team now, Jerry is just the front man. As soon as "jerry and his best friends on the team" get out of the way we will be even better off.
