Reserve list
To reduce the number of men under contract, teams can also place players on one of the various reserve lists. Injured reserve the most common one: players that have suffered an injury and will be out for an extended period of time get placed there — and possibly return if they get moved to the list after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Two of the Patriots’ candidates to be placed there appear to be defenders Shilique Calhoun and Derek Rivers.

Center David Andrews, meanwhile, looks like a prime candidate to be moved to the reserve/non-football injury list after he was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs. This designation would keep him out of football for at least six weeks, even though it seems unlikely his recovery will allow him to return to the field that quickly.

New England also will place tight ends Benjamin Watson and Lance Kendricks on the reserve/suspended list at the cut-down deadline: the veterans are banned for the first four weeks of the season (Watson) and the regular season opener (Kendricks), which means that they will not count against the team’s roster but simultaneously can also not communicate with the team or its staff in any capacity.

The Patriots have informed WR Gunner Olszewski of their intention to release him. Olszewski was a fan favorite, and special teams captain Matthew Slater said you couldn't find a player in the locker room to say a bad word about him. He inspired quite a few in that locker room.

Also Munson

Too bad Gunner will be picked up by someone else, hope not but likely.

Gunner and Munson might have checks in their pockets to turn off their cell phones and hold on until Sunday when BB can get them on the PS.

According to 98.5 the Sports Hub, The Patriots are at 64 on the roster as I type.

Rumors are swirling that trades are being discussed but nothing positive. Until 4:00, everything is 100% speculation unless you're in BB's office.

They need an "I'm okay with this" emoji... I can't say I like it but am not bothered by it. It's certainly not the type of move you'd call a winner. I'm not disappointed he's gone but he's been serviceable to the team.

Olszewski, who caught five passes for 69 yards in the preseason and flashed plenty of punt return ability, was a candidate to be claimed by another team.

So, minutes before they needed to submit their initial 53-man roster, the Pats decided to create a spot for Olszewski by shipping cornerback Keion Crossen to Houston.

The move blindsided Crossen, who earlier in the day believed he was a 100 percent lock to make the New England roster.

(just like all the receivers who blind-sided him)
