A no trade clause only protects the player from being dealt against his will. Does not protect the team at all.

I don’t think they should fix this. Small market teams will always be at a disadvantage. But, if you manage your team better than the big market, you can beat them.

Franchise tag like in football would solve the problem IMHO

Shooting freethrows is just as much mental as it is anything else. There's been lots of reports of guys like DeAndre, and even back in the day Andris Biedrins who would routinely hit 80% or better during practices but like suddenly forgot how to shoot during games.

Confidence is real.

On a side note, Klay only shot 81% from the line last year. That's kind of crazy when you think about how great of a shooter he is. He's a solid 84.8% for his career but way below guys who are in his shooting caliber like Ray Allen 89.4, Reggie at 88.8, Steph at 90.5.

Just did a random 5 person search of guys who were great 3 point shooters but terrible freethrow shooters...Dale Ellis had a 40.3% 3PT percentage but only shot 78.4% from the freethrow line. Wonder who would be in that caliber of shooting with a lower percentage?

Well, if OKC is going to tank then who cares if you have a malcontent on the roster. I just have a feeling if they waited a guy like Pat Riley would have gotten them a better deal with a 3 way trade of some sort.

LOL, the players union would NEVER agree to this. The Franchise Tag only works in the NFL because they have no guaranteed contracts. At least with the franchise tag, you're going to be getting paid a top 5 positional value for that one singular year. For the NBA there's no way Lebron, or KD or Steph or Giannis is signing a franchise tag.

Because everybody shoots a significantly lower percentage in games. If Curry shot 500 free throws in practice, he would hit like 495 of them.

An 80% practice guy is probably going to be low 70s or worse if they struggle with confidence. It is difficult to simulate game situations when practicing free throws. Pressure and fatigue are not easily replicated.

Yeah, but the 80% thing was to reference to Andris Biedrins who shot 16%, 32% and 11% from the freethrow line in 3 consecutive years for the Warriors, lol. That's a huge difference. I could imagine him hitting 80% in practice and shooting like 55-60% during the games...but damn.

You must not be familiar with unions.

The NBA and NFL are completely separate entities. The NBA is a STAR driven league, whereas the NFL is not so much. Lets say the NBA decides to be a complete dick and tell the players 1) we're going to cut your revenue, 2) we're going to restrict your player movement ability and 3) we're going to non-guarantee your contracts you could see the NBA collapse under that.

If the top 25 players in the NBA all decided at one time that they wanted to leave and create their own league, they would find no shortage of investors, TV sponsorship and broadcasting deals, endorsements and new ownership groups aching at the opportunity to form a new league. The NFL because of it's construct wouldn't be able to accomplish that.
