I'm thinking Winslow goes , just my guess, but no reason to cave in unless you feel there is another serious team involved that Westbrook wants to go to.

I know Cavs liked to bid against themselves with players like TT and JR, but Rileys a bit smarter.

Worst case you keep those young players. Actually think it should be more in their interest to stay away from RW...very tempting though.

Gilbert/Altman have done a great job rebuilding. If Garland turns into a stud and Sexton keeps improving I like where they are headed. I would never want to acquire a contract like that for the type of player RW is...I mean don't get me wrong he is a great player but I've yet to see him win a ship and he had some great players around him: KD, Harden, Ibaka, George, Adams, Perkins...put some shooters around him and it is worth a shot though, I just think Miami doesn't need to take that risk. Wait until next year or 2021

was it the Cavs' FO or the agents who made sure you were privy to the negotiations?

BTW, if you think they are overpaid the Cavs did so to remain in title contention....Heat overpaid their guys to remain in Purgatory. Cavs also were back in contention 5 years after Lebron left. Next year will be year 6 for Riles since Lebron left. see a trip to the Finals coming?

And the Heat have South Beach as an advantage

At Rileys age, you don't buy yellow bananas.
He's not waiting if it can get done, in hope that it might get done in the future.

Yeah it's totally different overpay guys to get a 5-8 seed then overpaying guys bc you are way over the cap in title contention. Lose TT and you probably don't win a ship tbh...but you lose him for nothing so you overpay him.
Whiteside wasn't needed. Even if he became a beast at 20 and 10 you aren't a title contender with that current roster they couldn't add to...unless a significant trade like they just made.

That summer, the only one in NBA history like it, definitely ended up with a ton of players being overpaid.

Please don't just limit it to Heat players.
There were many signings WAAYYYY worse.

It's one more year...you thinking he really thought this Heat roster could win it the last 3-4 years. No. It does make a difference you have Butler now but so I GET IT.

He knows....he is being stupid right now.

JR got how much last season? And did his production show he earned it?

What's one more year?
Who is available and coming that is guaranteed or better then Westbrook?

The salaries we'd be dumping now (assuming names we hear are correct) are the ones that come off the books next year anyway.

JR Smith signed that contract in 16-17. Right in the middle of when they were contenders

Yeah but you most likely have to give up Winslow. I mean they gave up Richardson so they obviously want to contend this year.

Not to open any wounds, but Deng, Mozgov were part of that summer.
There are many, many more.

As far as James Johnson, no he's not worth that money today, but when he's been healthy, he's been pretty good.

He's a tough defender, nice ball handler, decent shot, and an enforcer on the court.
You can do way worse then having him on your roster.

If it comes to that, then so be it.
Assuming Dragic is part of trade, Winslow moves to PG.
If you get Westbrook, he'd be PG anyway.
Herro looks like he can play PG.
Yes. I'd love to keep Winslow, but he's not a deal breaker to me.

IF either JR or Tristan weren't Klutch, things would have been a whole lot different for them.

When it comes to Russ, he is not a deal breaker at all

Maybe so but they still were over the cap, they didn't have an other options except possibly flip them before the deadline or something and it's not like they have a ton of value. They were nice pieces on a championship contender...a little overpaid sure. I actually don't think JR was overpaid and this last year of his contract could be valuable for teams...so it worked out.
