I don't know if I would say there isn't much hope for the future. Denver is young and the Spurs, with Pop coaching them, aren't your typical 7 seed. They would be a handful for pretty much anyone.
Malone is a good coach and might one day be as good as Pop, but right now, he's not and that's a lot of the difference.
White scored 36 points while only shooting one 3-pointer in 31 minutes
1 turnover
+30 box plus minus
completely and utterly shut down the opposing point guard on the other end
That was arguably one of the best playoff performances I have ever seen.
but it was so understated and subtle nuanced excellence not great for the ESPN highlight addicted viewer.
I fully expect him to have a rookie horrible game somewhere in this series as it will happen.
But, this was a masterpiece of offense and defense at least for one game.
I will savor it for 24 hours...and then the nerves start all over again.

He had a great 2nd half last night.I got the Spurs. But DeRozan fucking sucks in the playoffs though. Hmm...
DeMar DeRozan is averaging 24.7 PPG on 48.1 FG% with 7.7 RPG (2.0 ORPG) and 4.3 APG so far. All Playoff career highs.
Can we end the whole "DeRozan sucks in the playoffs" talk? He has a point guard who isn't afraid of the playoffs now.
Some of the DeRozan narrative is overblown.
But you can't change his reputation based off a 3 game sample against a team that has never been to the playoffs and doesn't have a rep for being great defensively.
Lowry has been pretty good since game 1 too.
I mean, he was supposed to be. He's always been considered the better player. Which is what made his disappearing acts so much more hurtful to the team overall than when Lowry would have his inevitable shit performance.Derozan was better than lowry imo in the playoffs when they played together
He seems to be playing a better defensive game, which is something he was either incapable of in Toronto or something "defensive genius" Dwane Casey was incapable of imposing on his players.DeMar DeRozan is averaging 24.7 PPG on 48.1 FG% with 7.7 RPG (2.0 ORPG) and 4.3 APG so far. SA does a great job selecting players in the draft. They may never have to go through a full rebuild. You been on White all season way before it was obvious to everyone else.
Congrats on being right. You got a heck of a player for years to come. He may not ever be a franchise player, but he is the type of guy who is really easy to shape a roster around because he does so many thing well.
I agree with that mostly.
At the same time though, while DeRozan is more than just a scorer, scoring is his main contribution to the team. Lowry does more beyond scoring.
So a bad shooting day for DeRozan hurts more than a bad scoring day for Lowry.
And while Derrick White is playing at a very high level, he is not the facilitator Kyle Lowry is. At least not yet.
