Because he didn't even have the balls to tell the owner of the franchise that he was quitting. And from public perception, it doesn't look like he had the balls to fire Walton and wanted someone else to do it.

Not only that, there several other mistakes along the way and by the way - I don't know why anyone was surprised by this resignation any way - He did the same thing as Head Coach years ago. He bought stock from the Lakers and then sold it, so he has a history of quitting on the Lakers. Just saying

Hell no.

I only root for cursed franchises.

So, I'm trying to bring my bad luck to the Bay.
LOL, okay just don't go breaking your ankle jumping on and off of your bandwagons. :-)

Shaq was asking for Jerry West last night, but I don't know if that's even a possibility.

Probably not, but he should be her first call, imo. At the least, I'd bet he could give her a list of guys who would be good hires as President and also as GM if she decides to let Pelinka go (which I doubt she will).

Okay, opinions are always welcomed on the SportsHoopla. IMO Magic isn't/wasn't cut out to be either a head coach or a president of any team.

How many people have blamed LeBron for Magic's decision to quit on the Lakers?
I don't think he is directly to blame. But if he was able to lure a second star my guess is Magic stays....and Magic was probably sold Lebron could do it.

Some of this is true, but if he could have gotten another star to come or put the right pieces around Lebron (and won) you think he'd leave? In addition, not have to work hard?

Actually, he still may have left.

His stated goal was to return the Lakers to contender status. He said that if he couldn't get it done, he'd quit. He didn't get it done and quit.

Had he gotten the 2nd star, then he may have very well quit at that time because he would have returned them to contender status.

He may not have quit until after next season (he'd want a victory lap lol). But, end of the day, Magic loves being Magic and just being an ambassador for the Lakers and the NBA. So, I think he'd want to return to that asap.

It's not really an opinion....Magic pretty much said this was the case.

I didn't hear Magic say that, but maybe I missed that part of his annoucement?

He said he had not told Buss he was quitting. He said he didn't want to get in the way of her and the coach she liked.

West is employed for the Clippers, so the Clippers would have to give the Lakers permission to speak to him and if you are the Clippers, you would say HELL NO to the Lakers request - If you are smart and West would be my first choice, my second choice would be to bring back Mitch Kupchak as President of operations.

Isn't West just a consultant? If they offered a promotion don't they have to give permission?

I'm calling b.s. on Magic if he said that because Jeanie told him that he could fire Walton at the end of the season if wanted. Some of them are upset because Walton hasn't upgraded his assistants. Most Head coaches hire former head coaches with experience.

I think they would have to ask permission no matter what, and the Lakers did speak to West when they fired Mitch, but he didn't share their vision, so highly unlikely that West would want to come back to such a role. Consultant is less work

I don't doubt this is possible one bit.
