Sigh....

This is just stupid. They have no intention of matching any offers, because his value to the team is abysmal, so if an offer is made then adios Bell and ADIOS COMPENSATORY PICK!

Too much risk involved with doing this. The only way I see this working out for Pittsburgh is if they have a preordained trade on the table, of which Bell will have to agree on. But everyone & their dog knows that Pittsburgh doesn't do business this way because of the risk involved.

This move just wreaks of spite. Just let the asshole walk and take the comp pick. How stupid will the Steelers look if they matched an offer? Basically forcing themselves to pony up the dough that they refused to pay this man the last 2 years. Even with the intent to trade... That just drives up his pricetag making him more difficult to move.

Across the Field nailed it.

Bell can't afford to sit out another season so if he wants to get a deal done...he will sign tag.

If Bell has any functioning brain issue left, he would understand that PIT is not going to just let him piss on their season by holding out...They want compensation now, not 2020. So...sign the tag, and whomever wants you will make you and offer that PIT will not match and that will be the end of it....both sides get what they want.
What do you mean both sides get what they want? If an offer sheet is made & the Steelers don't match it then they lose their comp pick and get NOTHING. Steelers would have to match that offer, then try & trade him if they want something better.

I mean..... What the hell are we missing here? I really just don't see Bell's value being as high as they think it is if they tranny tag him & match an offer sheet.

Couple things need to happen long before any trade will be possible. First the value of the tag will need to be settled, which has a big impact on his trade market. Secondly, the asshole will need to sign the damn tag before a trade is even possible. If he loses the tag value battle, then how likely is it that he tucks his tail between his legs & signs the tag?

I am on Bells side with all this even though the steelers were within their own rights to do what they did but as soon as bell played his rookie deal and got franchised once if both parties couldn't come to an agreement Bell should have had the power to leave an atleast test free agency to see what he would have gotten. Basically Bells entire career in the NFL the steelers have stopped bell from testing free agency they didn't have to franchise tag him a second time. Lastly bell was right when he said if he would have broken a bone or got injured the steelers would have cut him loose

Cut him loose? You mean the way the Steelers cut Ryan Shazier when he broke his back and could no longer play?? Oh wait, they didn't cut Ryan Shazier; in fact, they JUST granted him a new contract.

'fuck outta here with that noise

are you stupid? Ryan shaziers contract expires in 2020 and he is making about 9 million 2018 and 2019 season. Bell is looking for Todd Gurley money which is 4 years 58 million 45 million guaranteed. You think if Bell tore his ACL the steelers would give him anything like that? foh

my point, numbnuts, is that the steelers don't just throw people in the gutter because of an injury. not how they're known for handling such a situation. get a fucking clue.

My bad...match and trade is what I meant to say.

That's the only way for get a pick in '19.

Unless they tag him and can find someone willing to trade a pick for him, which seems possible.

I guess there is always a team. If the Browns are willing to bring Hunt in, there is a stupid enough franchise to go after him with the tag in place.

Honestly this is the last bit of anything the Steelers can get so I don’t blame them for doing it. If he doesn’t sign and sits out another year who gives a crap at this point. RBs are a dime a dozen and his career would then be officially over except for the AAF or XFL.

If the Steelers tag him nobody knows what kind of offer may surface. Say the Jets give him a Gurley size contract. If I was the Jets I'd let the Steelers know if they match I would not be interested in trading for Bell given the size of his contract. So then the Steelers would do what? Match it, see if they are bluffing?
Steeler will accept the comp pick and say don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out IMO. No tag this time.
